The British Department for International Development gave the UK-based Adam Smith Institute £7.7 million (about $12.7 million) in grants last year, more than it gave to many African countries, including Liberia and Somalia. In Liberia, 80% of the population lives in poverty, and in Somalia the average life expectancy is 47 years.
