A specter is haunting my hometown of Arlington. It appeared a few months ago when a new Hollywood Video store set up its marquee lights a mere 50 feet across Lee Highway from an existing Blockbuster.

This conspicuous clash between two rivals in home entertainment came just weeks before a picture-framing shop moved in down the road only a hundred feet from a long-established picture-framing shop. And it happened just months after a dry cleaner opened only a hop across the intersection from my dry cleaner, which itself resides in a shopping strip containing two beauty parlors only five ...
