IT had all started so well - a peaceful protest in Perry Barr, the national spotlight was on my area and no-one had let us down.

I walked out of an emotionally charged community meeting to a road where I usually take advantage of our wonderfully multi-cultural city and buy all types of food.

But there were no friendly faces or fruit stacked on the street on Lozells Road on Saturday as I walked into running battles between police and rioters.

There was chaos everywhere I looked. There was fear in some people's eyes, but excitement in others.
