THE character Haji Bakhil in P. Ramlee's comedies had a car - a Morris Minor to be exact - a driver and a maid. He was a typical rich type among the Malays in the Sixties. P. Ramlee, probably the most talented of the Malay directors, made people like Haji Bakhil the punching bag for all the ills in society. After all, he had very little good to say about the rich, the orang bangsawan and the uppity Malays.
