I love Joni, at least I can rely on her being the only famous Canadian singer that isn't a national embarrassment. 9/10

Love it! I've always had a soft spot for ABBA. 9/10

Well, everyone knows Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah, but I actually think this is at least as good, if not actually better...

I think she lacks the necessary weary gravitas. She makes it anguished when it ought to be resigned. 5/10

I'm fond of Cale's version - though even he says the 'yous' as 'you' most of the time, and half the trick of this song is to get away with 'yer' without sounding mannered.

Why would anyone seek professional help for having great taste in music???

They should only offer help for those who cannot appreciate ABBA!

You know when I clicked on the link, I went off to another page without watching the video and I thought, "Hey, this is good..." Then, I went back to the youtube page and saw the haircut.

He looks like Gary Oldman in "Fifth Element":

Blondie had their moments, and this is not one of them. There are few musical genres more limp than white kids poppifying bad reggae. 2/10

    This is rather better.

Po-faced, self-regarding, melodramatic tossers whose every breath is a waste of oxygen that could be better used lighting a cigarette. Not that I've given it much thought. 1/10

Uncharacteristically poppy song from under the Westway.

Well, they should keep away from poppy songs. They sound like highschool bands: 2/10.

Can't deny the guy's influence, but my feeling is that he didn't do anything worthwhile after 1958. The whole Vegas period, quite apart from being the antithesis of everything rock'n'roll was about, would have been an embarrassment except for the fact that it revealed him for what he really was: a corporate entertainer whose natural consistuency was trade conventions and tupperware parties. 2/10

Who can watch this without dying a little inside?

Unlike you, I was not around till much later so cannot compare his work before and after 1958 but I love his voice; would be happy to listen to him if he sang out the MacDonald's menu: 6/10!

I shall take that into account next time we discuss a book published before 1980.

I think he'd be more likely to order it than sing it.

Lavigne: not sufficiently significant to merit a lot of thought. Perfectly good teen pop. 5/10

Not sure to be flattered or offended but I will go with the realistic option: I am offended!!!

Sigh... there is a definite tendency among some modern musicians to think that wittering into a microphone in a bored fashion is somehow more 'significant' than actually singing. I love voices: be they big, sorrowful, energetic, or whatever... this just lacks anything. 2/10.

Something a little out of my usual comfort zone, but that I rather like:

All sound and fury signifying nothing whatsoever.

Why doesn't somebody post a song with great lyrics and a melodious voice to go with it? Take this one for example.

"L'art de la statistique est de tirer des conclusions erronèes a partir de chiffres exacts." Napoléon Bonaparte.

"Je crois que beaucoup de gens sont dans cet état d’esprit: au fond, ils ne sentent pas concernés par l’Histoire. Mais pourtant, de temps à autre, l’Histoire pose sa main sur eux." Michel Houellebecq.
