The Religious Texts section is for discussion of such texts.

Zen is one of many pathways to enlightenment.

To understand compassion and humility ..you must live it each day, much like learning to play a musical instrument..one step at a time.

Without humility there can be no learning.

Without compassion there can be no service.

I'm so happy you joined Bort. It will take you time to find your way around but first I'd like you to read this thread, Religion, Sex and Vulgarity,
it began slow but now its very hot and very very informative.

Then you should read this little hotty... When does philosophy become drivel and why? now this is really informative. The comments are coming so fast on these two reads you might not find the time for anything else for a while.

I love some of these smilies.

I find nowhere truth is more pronounced than in Zen.

I never get tried of reading the tales or talks of wisdom by Zen Masters

“Those who seek to satisfy the mind of man by hampering it with ceremonies and music and affecting charity and devotion have lost their original nature””

“If water derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind! The mind of the sage, being in repose, becomes the mirror of the universe, the speculum of all creation.

Thankyou for the warm welcome folks.

I was much too self centered for any practical application of Zen until I became involved in native american culture. I was fortunate enough to learn from several medicine people, mostly Cree, and Ojibway. Over the years I travelled with these people participating in sacred ceremonies.

Today I practice sitting meditation and walking meditation and have reached a balance in all things. My practical application is helping people with end of life issues at Hospice by using humor to calm the spirit of the patients.

    Zen is funny that way....
