The light seems a little to big, the one in my hotel room was like a little pencil light.

New Dilemma. I've been looking at houses. I found one that is under my budget, it's a cute older house but the current owners were in the middle of a redo when they needed to sell. What they did do is really cute just not finished... If I go with this house I'll have to do some remodelling, which I really didn't want to do but it is a little cheaper...

the house may be cheaper but how much work would you have to put into it ?
It may or may not be worth it. Are you talking major work or work that can be done by yourself ?

Like pussnboots said above, it all depends on how much the "redoing" will cost.

Still, it is a good opportunity to have a go at getting it done exactly the way you wish (at least the money will be spent for a good cause, so to speak).

    How about the location?

Location is decent and the neighborhood is cute.

To finished what the current owners have started isn't a lot, mostly cosmetic like painting, and grouting tiles. However, the bathroom was barely touched and if I'm going to complete the bathroom I may as well do it the way I want and if I do that I might as well make a walk in closet in the master bedroom..... ya see my dilemma?

well in that case, good point. If you hire a contractor just make sure you get a reputable one and price around first. Also make sure they are licensed and insured and get everything in writing.

But when you look at the house do you see yourself living there?
Grouting and painting aint bad. To sort that out you can invite friends to a fix it cocktail party, where everyone does a little job in your house and you supply them with cocktails after! fun way to solve a little problem. As for a walkin closet. Do you need it right now? or can you wait a while?

Has it actually got a workable bathroom or would you have to install one asap? If there is one that is in working order, I'd go for it - you'll never find a house that ticks all the boxes (unless you build it yourself ) so if this one feels right in most aspects, especially that all-important one, price, bespeak it quickly before someone snaps it up or you'll spend a lot of time regretting it. (I speak from experience.) You can do the odd jobs as and when you feel like it/can afford it - a house is like the Forth Bridge, fast as you think it's all done, you have to start on something else, it will never be absolutely perfect. And when you find a reliable handyman, hang on to him, feed him coffee regularly, slip a choccy biccy by the mug, tell him he's wonderful, you don't know how you would manage without him - you know the script!

Or you could ask a neighbour to help you!

Well, you could, but you never know what you might be letting yourself in for....(the voice of experience - bitter - speaks here). The bit about the choccy biccy still stands, whoever does it!

    What's choccy biccy?

I decided against the house. I still think it was a great deal which is why I was probably trying to talk myself into it but it just wasn't "speaking" to me
