Wasn't it though? Congratulations, Wiff, you can give us the next teaser, even if all of you missed two very obvious clues. (In red) You caught this one. (in blue) High heels are also called "Stilettos." The clues you missed would make that "stiletto" a "switchblade". The reference to a "cross" in my original clue was for a famous book and movie "The Cross and the Switchblade".

Ah yes the blade is more silent than the gun, youse understand me, sometimes you have to switch tactics. An Italian wit one of dese who is good, he makes the hit artistic, like a pretty moll’s leg in a high heel shoe, capisce?

Um.. sorry, Steph. I'm a mystery writer for another website, and I have a word limit. You learn to hide the mystery in as few words as possible, while still giving enough clues to solve. I have published 45, so I think I'm getting the hang of it.

    Maybe...

You're still up, Wiff! Bring on the next Brain Teaser!

I'm no good at brainteasers, but I'm surprised that no-one's gone back to the roots of riddle with this one:

I am the world's wonder, for I make women happy.
I am tall & straight, stand in a bed,
Have a roughish root. Rarely (though it happens)
A young maid more daring than the rest
    --and lovelier--lays hold of me,
Rushes my red top, wrenches my head,
And lays me in her larder. She learns soon enough,
The curly-headed creature who clamps me so,
Of my meeting with her: she is left in tears!
    Voices mysterious far and near,
Sound of the wind and sound of the sea,
Are calling and whispering in my ear,
    Whifflingpin! Why stayest thou here?

"I sincerely hope I am not right in the picture I am getting Wiff!"

Unlikely, but, of course, the picture you are getting is probably the one you're meant to get.

barbara0207 is getting warm, except that she's too warm.

Indeed - Onion it is - a brain teaser that amused the learned clerks of Exeter in the eleventh century or thereabouts.

    Your turn, Scher...

Quite so, that one is worded so as to lead one down the wrong hallway, and unfortunately, once that picture pops into your head, you may forget about solving the problem, as you fear you might be right and wish to not announce the fact! Way to balance the clues, Scher. You're up next!

How can you measure 4 litre of water using only 3 and 5 litre containers?

    Two methods:

    1. Fill the 3.
    2. Pour contents into 5.
    3. Fill 3 again.
    4. Fill the 5 from 3.
    5. Empty the 5.
    6. Pour the 1 remaining in 3 into 5.
    7. Fill 3.
    8. Pour 3 into 5, which now contains 4. =)

A weapon also used for escaping from various entanglements...it almost never leaves the adventurer's side. Can you crack this case?

I am not certain this is what you want Robin, but it fits. It is a Kubaton, a key-ring baton weapon. Since it can hold keys, or, inside the hollow, picklocks or throwing spikes, in this case, a knife, it can be used for escape. One would always carry it, very small, very portable. This one I own. There is an art to using one as a weapon that I understand is part of police training.

Oooh...not what I had in mind, Pen, but fascinating all the same.

Don't worry, Pen - I'm sure you can swing the answer to your side somehow. =)
