Happy Birthday, Juniper! Basil may or may not be able to wish you a happy birthday himself, he's at a training right now and doesn't have access to litnet but I know he would want to add his voice to the well wishers, maybe even give you a plate of sausage because he thinks it's so clever.

    Tanjoubi omedetou, Juniper!

    An interview with JuniperWoolf:

    *So, how old are you?*
    24.

*If you had a personal theme song what would it be?*
Blackbird, because I literally haven’t seen the sun since the start of December due to my latitude and night shifts.

*Are you male or female? *
Oddly enough, that’s been a topic of debate on litnet several times.

*If you owned the site, what would you change?*
I’d make more color and style options.

*What was the inspiration for your LitNet username? And if you could change it today, what would you pick?*
Juniper was my favorite word at the time, and Woolf was the name of my study hall. Now I think it’s a stupid name. If I were to change it today, I’d make it the same as my tag but with one “O” because no one would get the reference. I’ve always thought “badwolf” sounded cool, and it suits me way better than it did Rose Tyler.

    *Which countries have you visited?*
    Canada and America.

    *Which languages do you speak?*
    English, Japanese and bad French.

*If you could live somewhere different, where would it be and why?*
Vancouver. That’s where I plan to live come mid-August, but it can’t come soon enough.

    *Do you have any pets?*
There aren’t as many animals in my house as there were last year. It is my responsibility to keep the following creatures alive: one Canadian goose, one mastiff, one brown rabbit, one illegal frog, two cockatiels, several mealworms (for the frog) and one small catfish.

    *What makes you happy?*
Things that look/feel/smell/taste/sound good, learning, male humans.

*Do you take yourself too seriously, or not seriously enough?*
I don’t think the latter is possible.

*Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God/atheism?
I generally abstain from the walk.

*Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?*
Still Emily Perkins, she has me exactly.

    Who is your favourite Beatle?
    I like Paul now.

*How do you like your coffee? *
    Superfluously cute.

*Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?*
    A spoiled house cat.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
    A lawyer.

*What makes you feel great about yourself?*
That would probably be my good looks, intelligence and athleticism.

*How did you meet your significant other?*
My main squeeze was a substitute teacher when I was in highschool.

*What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)*
Paying attention for long periods of time (lamest superpower ever).

*What book would you say sums you up?*
The Secret Garden, the overall structure of my life has resembled the plot and my personality is a bit like Mary’s.

*What’s the stupidest forum argument you’ve ever had?*
I love stupid forum arguments. Picking out the stupidest would be like choosing just one favorite flavor of ice cream.

*Which book are you reading at the moment?*
    I’m re-reading Paradise Lost.

    *What is your favourite quote?*
”All is not lost; the unconquerable will,
and study of revenge, immortal hate,
and courage never to submit or yield,
    and what else is not to be overcome;
that glory never shall his wrath or might
    extort form me.”
    -Paradise Lost

*Which comedians or cabaret artists do you like?*
I love comedians. My favorites are Doug Stanhope, Matt Stone, Trey Parker and the Kids in the Hall.

    *Favorite avatar on the Forum?*
Pip’s avatar is David Bowie as the goblin king from the movie Labyrinth. You really can’t beat that.

    *Favorite threads?*
Rate That Song will always be my favorite thread, it’s introduced me to some of my favorite bands.

    What's your favorite sandwich?
    BLT.

*What is your answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything?*
    “I don’t know.”

Who are some of the nicest people you met on LitNet?
There was this one East Indian girl on here about half a year ago, as far as “nice” is concerned she could have been in contention for world champ.

    *Favorite poem?*
To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell

*First novel you remember reading on your own?*
I don’t remember. I think it was about a family of cats.

    *Favorite TV shows?*
South Park.... and Ouran Highschool Host Club. *cough*

*What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?*
I’m an office administrator, and what a thrill it is.*

    *sarcasm

*What would you like to be if you could change your profession?*
    I’m working on it.

*Which one of the seven dwarves are you and why?*
Sneezy. I’m allergic to grass and coniferous trees, among other things.

*What is your most outstanding feature?*
My punky-yet-formal style and my “smart mouth.”

*What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?*
Nothing, I’m answering and reviewing these questions whenever I have time.

*If you could change one thing about your appearance, what would it be?*
    I’m too small.

    *Describe your ideal day, please.*
I want to wake up in Vancouver in my tiny room by the ocean, walk to class in the sun, listen to a few lectures, maybe have a lab and play with some creepy specimens, joke around with the people I’m going to meet, con a free lunch out of someone, go to the beach and play with some tide pools, and in the evening do fun stuff.

    *Favorite movie?*
The cult classic Re-Animator, based on HP Lovecraft’s story of the same name.

*How are you going to pick just one favourite painting?*
Easily. With who I am and what I love, most paintings are irrelevant to me.

*Do you want to buy a banana?*
Haha, I love where this question was situated.

    *Favorite painting?*
It’s still Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, but since I said that one last year I’ll say Judith Slaying Holofernes because it’s brutal:

    *Bowie, yay or nay?*
    An emphatic yay.

    *Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?*
I usually like super heroes based on their rogues’ gallery (exception: X-Men, because Gambit is way cooler than any of their villains). I know that based on that criteria most people would pick Batman, but in my opinion Lex Luthor trumps all other villains, and his cold, strategic, calculating ways easily beat the predictable, chaotic, psychotic methods employed by the stupid boring overrated Joker.

*What is the best thing that happened to you since your last birthday?*
I earned back most of my money. I also got really into The Beatles.

*If you could send one thing to the Room 101, what would that be?*
Nothing, bring it (uh... as long as “it” isn’t earwigs).

*Tell us something scandalous about yourself.*
Hmm... I can’t skate. That’s pretty embarrassing, since I’m Canadian. I’ve been on dozens of school trips to the rink, and each time I just sat on a metal folding chair in my fluffy, oversized parka and let the other kids push me around on the ice. “I’m the puck, I’m the puck!”

*How long did it take you to answer all of these questions?*
I answered them here and there over the span of a couple days.

*One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?*
    Lighten up.

    Awesome interview, Juniper.

Some comments on some of your answers.

I always just thought your name was a reference to a tree that you liked (you're Canadian, so it's a rule that you like trees) and Virginia Woolf.

I didn't know you spoke Japanese. That's cool. Do you want to go to Japan?

Paul? Really? The only reason Paul isn't at the bottom of the Beatles list is because of Ringo.

That coffee picture just doesn't seem to fit you.

The story of you and your main squeeze sounds possibly intriguing and scandalous.

It must suck to be allergic to that where you live.

Small women are extremely hot. Maybe I'm just saying that because I'm 5'3", but I think I'd feel the same if I was 6'4".

    Awesome painting choice.

Joker is a way better villain then Lex! Lex is a cool villain, but come on, the Joker rules. And he's predictable? That's exactl what he isn't. Come on, didn't you see The Dark Knight? The Joker all the way.

    Great last words.

Your answers intrigue me for a few reasons:

    1. Now I really want a Canadian goose in my house.
    2. I'm trying to picture what is so illegal about this frog, but all I get in my head is a frog smoking a cigar.
    3. How do you manage to keep the mealworms alive and feed them to the frog?

Here I disagree. Lex is smart, has money, and motivation. Joker's just nuts. Old-school Joker (check out his earliest appearances in the 1940s) was pretty cool, but when he turned into the cackling random death machine, he got shallow and boring.

Nah, Vancouver's close enough (you might have to be Canadian to get that joke). I absorbed a lot of Japanese over the last 20 years, and I've been officially studying it for the last four.

Yeah, people who only know me online are often surprised by my love of cute stuff. I think the juxtaposition works, like this:

Haha, apparently the teachers had to have a faculty meeting about us. Since Dave was much younger than your average teacher and I was 18 and graduating in two months they decided to just ignore it.

Well apparently, the Canadian government won't let you bring certain pets into the country because if they escape they have the potential to screw up the ecosystem or something. I'm told that this frog is one of those animals, by the lady who left him at my house after he jumped out of his tank and stopped moving for a while (I think he just had a concussion) and then never bothered to pick him up again.

Haha, just as I was writing that I was thinking "hmm, I like the wording of this response but you know, you really can't keep mealworms alive and use them for pet food - naah, no one will notice."

Exactly. Luthor is dreamy, the Joker is predictable in that he'll just always do the psychotic thing.

I think you do have to be Canadian to get that joke. I wasn't aware any part of Canada was close to Japan, but that's not surprising because, like all Americans, I suck at geography.

And the Joker is also smart (he's a criminal genius and mastermind), also has money (less than Lex, though, I concede), and also has motivation. Here's why Joker beats Lex. He's evil while Lex is just your typical rich ***-hole. And the Joker may always do the psychotic thing, but he's the only villain to always keep Batman on his toes. Batman, with his smarts and computers, could take down Lex within weeks if he put his mind to it.

Happy B-day Jun. Your litnet name is not stupid, its classy, and I mean that. Juniper is just a sweet-sounding word, and Woolf makes me think of Virginia Woolf. Also, my honest to goodness favourite sandwich is also the BLT, I swear I could live on them. And hey, I can't skate either. They haven't sent any letters to my mailbox yet revoking my canadian citizenship so I think we're both in the clear there.

Happy Birthday, Juniper Woolf! May your day and year and life be filled with the sweetness and light of whipped cream, the joy and devotion of our animals, and the intrigue and mystery of love!

And say! The picture you chose of Judith is one of my favorites, too! I got to see the one by Goya in person and it's actually quite small, which makes it all the more impressive. Brutal, as you say!

I love your chosen name, Juniper Woolf. The names sound good together. I always thought Woolf was a tribute to Virginia, and I love the name Juniper. Maybe, like me, you get a bit restless. If I could give myself another name (well, I can think of several I'd use) right now it would be Alazarin Crimson.

I like Paul, too. And really, MM, what's wrong with Ringo? He's funny, and apparantly quite a respected drummer. He sang the "No No Song", so he can't be all that bad a musician. Just sayin'. John liked him, too:

    John Lennon
"Ringo's a damn good drummer. He was always a good drummer. He's not technically good, but I think Ringo's drumming is underrated the same way Paul's base-playing is underrated. Paul and Ringo stand up anywhere with any of the rock musicians." -- from a Playboy magazine interview (1980)

Anyway, here's to you, little fish. May you always swim upstream. Be free and have a great year.

    Here's a song for you.
