Lucky for you to see it on TV. She is totally amazing, isn't she? One thing about Hitchcock films is, he picked out the best and most beautiful/classy and talented actresses. Look at Kim Novak and Grace Kelly - both stunning. Others were, as well. Hitchcock make such fine casting choices. Even his bit parts are people with extraordinary talent and sometimes quirky performances. I have been watching the TV series on DVD and am amazed at some of the performances of these unknown actors/actresses. This one woman played this very angry, sort of demented character, in one of the shows which I watched last night; I was totally mesmerized with her performance. I have no idea who the actress was, but she no doubt did stage; it was a stellar performance.
*Classic*, Did you ever see "Notorious" as well? Bergman is so sexy and stunning in that film; I just bought it recently - had never seen it before. I never thought of her as particularly sexy and sensual, but she exuded that quality in "Notorious", so did Gary Grant.
Mission Impossible III -- some hokey, but entertainment. Funny supporting character, the computer geek, did a good job.
The BBC's coverage of the US election. A little long, but OK otherwise.
I also watched Black Book again last night. Excellent.
Unfortunately, not yet. It comes in a box set though, that I'm hoping will be under the Christmas tree with my name on it this year.
I completely agree with you about the women Hitchcock casted. Tippi Hedren as well, and even Joan Fontaine in a more simple sort of way. I do think Kim Novak was underrated!
Hotel Rwanda - 8/10 great flick. Made me more ashamed to be American.
Yes, I really enjoyed that film too, although it was very depressing.. Although the documentaries (Ghosts of Rwanda, Sometimes in April) I have seen and books (Left to Tell, Machete Season, SHake Hands with the Devil) I have read on Rwanda are much worse, in fact they are pretty awful and very hard to watch and read.. Parts of the book "Left to Tell" make one break down crying... it is horribly depressing that the world sat by and watched these atrocities and did nothing at all.. Even the UN did nothing in reality and that is an awful and shocking truth..
Last movie I saw was:
Intolerance: Love's Struggle Through the Ages-- 9.5/10
amazing 1916 silent film that I highly recommend to anyone interested in silent films.. depicts four different stories throughout history, from the fall babylon, to the crucifixion of christ, to st bartholomew's day massacre, to a 1914 american strike and the fight between crime and moral puritanism, and workers and capitalists... just a wonderful film
Very good movie. I haven't seen it in years, though.
Changeling
10/10
There is no reason for something to be this good. The story is horrid. Mainly because it is true. Angelina Jolie has given, in my opinion, the best performance by an actress in the last 20 years. I don't care what anyone else thinks. She was unbelievable in here. I felt so badly for her and I think it was because she was so real in this role. Whenever my thoughts would go back to the fact that this is a true story, that made her performance even more heartbreaking. If she doesn't WIN the Oscar, then I know everyone is crazy. As long as I am on that, if Clint Eastwood doesn't win, that will convince me even more so on my opinion! I would like to see a total of 4 actors in this film nominated. After that, I would expect at least one to WIN the Supporting Actor Oscar. Of course, this is just my little opinon and it doesn't really count much. :) But, for me, this was such a bad story that was made into such a good film. Very, very good film!
Lady Wentworth, I can't wait to see this film. I like what you wrote about it; this makes me even more anxious. It looks so incredible. I actually like true stories, more than pure fiction, even though this will be a sad one. I think, from the trailers that I have seen so far, that Jolie's performance is terrific. I personally think she is a very good actress and can't wait to see her take on this most difficult role.
islandclimber, I loved the film "Hotel Rwanda" - amazing. I guess reading about the truth even more stark and depressing. The film was excellent and the acting was fantastic.
That silent film sounds wonderful. I will keep that inmind.
27 Dresses. It was cute. As stunning as Katherine Heigl is, she's really not a very good actress. 6.5/10
I think it's a Hitchcock kind of night, so I'll just give whatever I watch a 10/10 in advance:D
p.s. Has anyone seen the new James Bond movie yet? I really want to see it!
My mother saw this movie. Earlier tonight she brought it up. She was going on about Jolie's performance. It really is good. I don't see how anyone (though I am sure there are a lot of people) could find fault with it. Even the people who dislike her. I don't know how they could say anything negative about her in here. I actually found myself wanting to cry for her more than once during some of her scenes.
It is a very depressing film. But you know what? It is a very frustrating film. The story is almost unbelievable. What the poor woman goes through is ungodly. It is so frustrating but that makes it all the more depressing.
there is a new james bond movie? wow, I am so out of the loop with new movies haha..
what Hitchcock film are you going to watch?? I watched "North by Northwest" not too long ago which I love.. and also "Shadow of a Doubt" which is quite good as well..
