I watched 'Garden State' today. I will say in no uncertain terms that I've never identified with any piece of art in any medium like I did with this movie. It honestly felt like this movie was made for me.

Many folks would say this movie is depressing and/or unoriginal. Certainly, there are depressing elements, and you'll hear no arguement from me that the main currents of the movie have been done before. Nevertheless, the overall presentation was vivid and imaginative, and the way in which I related to what I was seeing makes this a very special movie to me. Unequivocal 10/10.

Liked the vampire movei, was soooo funny (family movie), the 'princess' one was pretty good, too, The Beach... well, was a bit... dunno, boring? didn't like it a lot, and American Pie... was laughing my *** off all night long :D. Fave of the trilogy (as far) is the wedding one.

Yea I dont think it's such a good movie either...it's just another 'rambo' type of movie...but u should see enemy at the gates, starring Jude Law..it's a good movie and is based on true story...it's about this russian sniper with WW I as the story background.

i only saw the trailler and i really like the philosophical message. It said" everytime a person dies, he/she will loose 21 grams of his/her body weight when he/she still alive. So it said that the 21 grams is actually the weight of the person's soul.

I watched Old Gringo last night, a film regarding one of my personal favorite writers of all time, Ambrose Bierce. It told an interesting story, but much of it seemed too . . . fiction, considering that all we know about the latter part of Bierce's life concerns his disappearance during the Hispanic Revolution. 6/10

Last nite i got a sudden imsonia and i couldnt sleep, so i checked out my dvd collections and i ended up doing a movie marathon! These were the movies that acommpanied me

One flew over the cuckoo’s nest -Directed by Milos Forman, 5 Oscars and buch of other awards.
No doubt about it. One of some of the rarest masterpieces in the history of movies i suppose. Great story, awesome dialogues, perfect set, professional actors and actresses, and of course wonderful film kru. It’s interesting to see how Milos presented the story, and make it as dazzling as the book. Watching this movie somehow makes me think that a person, regardles of what his/her condition is, has the need to love and to be loved. The friendship that wrapped all the ward members is very touching. And i didnt feel like watching a story about a bunch of people who are considered as lunactis. also learning from some of the characters like billy boy and cheswik, made me think that perhaps freedom is not always about living outside, uncaged and be able to do what ever what we what to do. But it can also means to feel that we’re secure, comfortable, and to be able to be with people whom can we accept and can accept us as well,
I give it (as always) 5:thumbs_up

Clockwork Orange Directed by: Stanley Kubrick
Now, i wish that emily is here to give comment about the movie. This is the first time i saw clockwork and i think,.. well it’s so Kubrick :D. But of course this is another masterpiece about dystopian society. Yet, i dont really get what excatly the point of this movie. I mean is it about how someone has to gone thru the hard way to undertand about respect to other peole. Is it about the fact that each human is actually has his/her own vicious side, which can only be controlled or overcome by his/her own will? I’m not sure. I have to watch it again. I already have the dvd for a quite some time yet, i just got the time to watch it last nite..shame, i know..(for God’s sake it’s Kubrick’s!)
But I love it, so I give it 4 :thumbs_up

The pianist Directed by Roman Polanski, 3 Oscars
This is also my first time, and i think Adrian and Roman Polanski did well. I like the way he imagined himself playing the piano without actually touching it, yet his facial expression shows as if he actually listened to the tunes he played. Another thing that i like is that this is a true movie, and how the movie is wrapped with a story of akward friendship at almost the end the movie. An enemy is an enemy, yet they’re still human as well and compasion can always be given regardless whom your facing. Though perhaps the Nazi captain is being pragmatic with his help coz he’s aware that german is falling and he could use the poor pianist's help sometime in the future. but it's a great movie as well..
i give it 4 :thumbs_up

Adapation Directed by Spike Jones, 2 Golden Globe and 4 Oscar nominations
I only watched half of the movie. Not only becoz my eyes were already tired, but also because this spike jonze’s movie is a diffcult one to understand. It jumps from one time in the present to the old past, then to near past then to the present again. This is actually a story about 3 different characters which is connected with the same thing: orchids. It take some concentration to understand it. Yet Spike is still one of the good directores ever, i have to see this movie again sometime to make sure about it
i give it 2 :thumbs_up for the time being

Fear and loathing in las Vegas.

This was different from what I expected. There are parts filled with a black, absurd kind of humour that just makes me laugh out loud. But most of all this movie makes me sad, for all the children of the sexties that believed that it was all going to be Ok. That drugs was harmless because people were good, and that drugs was going to make us grow. Nothing like that in this movie. Nothing like that. And some of the people remind me more about old friends then I really like to admit. I ´ll give this movie 9 out of ten.

Saw Silence of The Lambs before bed.
This is actually a bad choice before bedtime, cause it made me couldn't close my eyes, and i kept thinking of Buffalo Bill

I think so far, this is the scariest and most thrilling movie about psychopatic killer, i ever saw. The way Sir Anthony Hopkins played his role is remarkable. Oh well, just to post since I haven't in so long...I saw a film in Spanish class today called "Yo, la peor de todas" (I, the Worst of All) about the life of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz (a poet/nun from Mexico in 17th century). Rather depressing movie, and it presented a different picture of her than what I had envisioned. Definitely low-budget too...some of the set pieces were hilarious.

On the other hand, I've been able to see several movies in the past couple months that I've been wanting to see for a long time: Garden State, Spider-man 2, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Finding Neverland. I'll give them all 10s for simplicity's sake. They were all very good. And I watched Frequency again for the hundredth time last night--you have to see that movie if you haven't already.

I saw a Tom Tywker's The Princess and the Warrior recently. A beautiful film. It's set in Wuppertal, Germany, where Twyker was born. Interestingly enough, I have been pretty much fascinated with Wuppertal's railway, and this features heavily in the film. The story is fairly magic realism, and the characters are rather larger than life, but it has a magical, fairytale quality to it that is highly endearing.

Last movie I saw on DVD: Dawn of the Dead (the remake), I actually quite enjoyed it, I wouldn't rate it higher than a 3/5 however. It has an overall nice style to it. There are some plot lines that are a bit too thin and not dealt with enough and there are some plot lines that is begun and then killed off without any sense of rythm. Overall it's an alright zombie movie, one of the better as of late, but still not without flaws.

plus have ever you thought about the reason why your friends hate fight club? because it was the truth. and the truth hurts. one of the film's message is don't be rabid materialistic fool. perhaps your friends disliked the preachy elements? either way they're offended because fc was meant to offend. it's sorta like a filter. =^).

what i meant is that the message of the book resonated through and through in the movie. in fact on the DVD commentary track Chuck Palahniuk, the author of the '97 book, commented that there were things in the movies that improved his novel! so you can read the book and receive the same message or you can watch the movie and receive the same message. it's a very interesting combo of works. it has remained the highlight of david fincher, brad pitt and edward norton's career. i'm not so sure they'll ever surpass it....

Here is something for all the movie buffs out there (copied from CNN.com/showbiz):

NEW YORK (AP) -- Although "Titanic" soared at the box office in 1997, according to a recent survey, its most memorable line -- "I'm the king of the world!" -- sunk.

British baker Warburtons posed the question "What are your top three cheesiest moments in film?" to 2,000 U.K. moviegoers in celebration of the launch of their new cheese-flavored crumpets.

The line uttered by Leonardo DiCaprio was followed by Patrick Swayze's "Nobody puts baby in the corner" from 1987's "Dirty Dancing" and Andie MacDowell's "Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed," from the end of 1994's "Four Weddings and a Funeral."

Warburtons reports that surveyed women opted for romantic comedy moments from films such as "Notting Hill" and "Jerry Maguire" and men preferred silly scenes from action flicks like "Top Gun" and "Braveheart."

Despite the gender divide, 33 percent of the voters agreed on the "Titanic" yell as the cheesiest moment.

The list of big cheese moments:

"Titanic": Leonardo DiCaprio's "I'm the king of the world!"
"Dirty Dancing": Patrick Swayze's "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."
"Four Weddings And A Funeral": Andie MacDowell's "Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed."
"Ghost": Demi Moore's "Ditto," to Patrick Swayze's "I love you."
"Top Gun": Val Kilmer to Tom Cruise: "You can be my wingman anytime."
"Notting Hill": Julia Roberts' "I'm just a girl ... standing in front of a boy ... asking him to love her."
"Independence Day": Bill Pullman's "Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"
"Braveheart": Mel Gibson's "They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom!"
"Jerry Maguire": Renee Zellweger to Tom Cruise: "You had me at hello."
"The Postman": A blind woman says to Kevin Costner: "You're a godsend, a savior." He replies: "No, I'm a postman."

I agree that anything could sound cheesy out of context but they do so more than others I guess... But these make the movies fun. :)

To me, Andie MacDowell's "Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed." is the cheesiest of all... (Of course that has something to do with the fact that I have always thought she was badly cast for that role and movie.)

Try, A Short Movie, directed by Jonas Arklund

The shorter version of this movie is used as the video clip for Smashing Pumpkins' song called "Try Try Try. Directed by a Sweedish meatball (to use Homer Simpson's term, j/k

:) of course), this movie was shoot in subway stations and streets in Stockholm. It tells about 2 homeless youngsters, a couple of lovers, who are hard core drug users. The movie itself try to convey the image about how two people hold on to their love and try to stick to each other, despite the hard times they're going thru. Personally I found this movie bit touching, despite the harsh description of hard core drug compsumption.

Goodbye Lenin, Directed by Wolfgang Becker

This movie got 6 awards from European Film Festival and 9 awards from German FIlm Festival. It takes place during the transition era of West and East Germans re-unification. Alex's mom, who's a true socialist, suddenly collapse coz of a heart attack. For 8 months she was in coma, then she suddenly woke up. Alex afraid that all the changes that have been going on would cause another attack to her mother. So he did everything to create a condition as if nothing was happening. He hunted all the "socialist" foods (which were no longer produced) all over the city for her mother, paid school kids to wear blue scarf (a symbol of the pioneer socialist movements) and sing patriotic East German songs, made video records that contain fake news about East German, etc. One day her mother accidently woke up from her bed and went out to the street and she saw lots of "west" products all over the place. She even saw a helicopter flew, carryin a half body statue of Lenin, which was actually going to be dumped some place (I believed that's why the movie is called "Goodbye Lenin"). Then Alex had to fake up again by telling that people from west German were immigrating to East German to find better living and East German system was after all the winner. Until her death, the mother still didn't know what was really going on. Yet she died in peace and happines, knowing that the mother country she believed in, was finally stand as the winner.
Good Movie I think :)

I last saw I, Robot. The character development was decent, the plot was intriguing, the underlying messages of struggle to overcome and artificial intelligence were interesting. I'd say that parts of it were understandably cliche and some of the action a bit silly, though overall it was watchable.

I'd give it a 7 or so out of ten.

Do. It's a good flick.

A Tokyo Story: True cinematic classic. Even though it was made in '53, the ideas about future shock and the relations between generations are as timely as ever. Sad and beautiful in story, poetic in cinematography. Ozu shoots damn well near the entire film at waist level which is a bit disorienting at first. Later we feel more and more like we've been invited to quietly sit on the floor and watch the private moments of this family.

I give it an 8.

Okay, okay, I admit, some friends and I saw a modern cartoon yesterday at a theater: Pixar's The Incredibles. I felt surprised, however, by how funny some of its parts seemed; it has humor for an audience of all ages, and with amazing animation. Its plot, however, seemed predictable, despite a few odd turns here and there. My rating: 7/10.

Last night, I did not exactly see a movie, but a laser show (of symmetrical, colorful, and mind-bending lasers) inside a giant planetarium dome, featuring the music of Radiohead (oh, subT will be so jealous!). The show did not precisely have a screen, but the planetarium extends high in a dome-shape building; one could feel floating through space, cruising on a Mobïus Strip, and/or walking on a 3-dimensional plane while lasers dance to the Radiohead music.
For other Radiohead fans, the songlist proceeded thus:
2+2=5
the bends
You

packt like sardines in a crushed tin box
pyramid song
karma police
There There

Watched The Phantom of The Opera last night... Being the first non-cartoon/animated movie I have seen in the cinema in the last 5 years, it had certain charms of course... and the fact that 'The Phantom' is one of my favorite musical pieces. Regardless, it is a beautifully made movie. The only complaint I have is that I miss the original artists who sang like Sarah Brightman. saw Hotel Rwanda today. shattering. beautiful and awfulawfulawful. the worst scene was the car in the fog. i knew immediately what was happening and clutched my friend's arm. the best was what any reviewer would tell you: it was an amazing feat for one hotel manager to "house over a thousand Tutsis refugees during their struggle against the Hutu militia in Rwanda."

thank goodness it's PG-13.

i can't even begin to rate this. i would just say it's a must see. and i'm so glad i was with a friend. it's probably the most important, riveting movie i will see in this lifetime. i could barely walk right when it ended; it is that powerful.

I admit of the film's hilarious references to stereotypes against teenagers, cheerleaders, and homosexuality; in conclusion, the theme did have something to say about gay rights with comformation to society vs. non-conformation, but by the oddest means.

I just saw this film. It chronicles the events surrounding the recent genocide that took place in 1994. It is clear that the "free" nations of the world live in blindness—by ignorance or choice—to these atrocities. This film is good but it is mostly important for those of us who feel secure in our own lives to see.

What really struck me is that the division between the Hutu's and Tutu's (not sure if I spelled that correctly) was solely based upon the way a person looked. Essentially, both groups of people were related to each other, and one day folks started measuring noses, rating darkness and lightness of skin, and two groups were formed that were suddenly pitted against each other. The differences were very subtle.

Go see it. It has sparked my interest in becoming more aware of world events.

A few days ago I followed Dyrwen’s suggestion and I rented Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
SOME SPOILERS AHEAD
The basic premise is this: what would happen if you had the option to delete all memories from any of your previous love relationships? What happens of course, is a chain of events that deals in infinite repetition, but I’ll return to this later. The movie presents us with the pain of the breaking, of the difficulty to move on, of the unrepressed rage towards oneself and the other. In this context, negating to this possibility of erasing such painful mementos, would appear unwise. But, after the initial reactions have passed, when the anger cools off and the pain doesn’t seem so vivid, the good memories come to mind. The awkward process of conquest and intimacy, the long days and longer nights in mutual company, all the stuff that justified the relationship itself, all of those begin to disappear as well. Would you part with these just to get rid of the others? That is, pretty much, the question that the characters in the movie ask themselves, knowingly or not (and the latter is more common than the former).
Interesting subject is this. Are we what we recall? The memories of our past experiences, either good or bad, helps us? Saves us? Dooms us? Remove the things you’ve done, and you’ll find yourself a bit less yourself. More time has passed, but you’ve gained nothing from it, not even the experience now, and without that, what can possibly prevent you from making the same mistakes again? Again, the constant repetition is ensured, albeit mith mixed elements. The events repeat themselves, not always in a rational manner, but in the emotional sense as well. After all, isn’t that what we do, trial by error?
Apparently, Michel Gondry (the director), has a thing for repetitions. If you’ve seen the videos for The hardest button to button (The White Stripes) and Come into my life (Kylie Minogue), you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Doom Generation I found one of the strangest movies I have ever seen, especially as a "B movie." Some scenes seemed a little too violent and cheesy, but being a low-budget film, some of the scriptlines sounded so seriously ridiculous, I could not help but laugh. My rating: 6/10.
James and the Giant Peach I loved, being a devoted fan of Tim Burton. Most animation, I have seen, has shifted for both children and adults to enjoy together. This seemed a classic, adventurous tale, but still retaining that amazing, imaginative intuition directed by Burton. My rating: 10/10.

A few days ago I saw Zatoichi.

I like Kitano. Each one of his films has an air to it: good script, good acting, seemingly unjustified gags, gratituous blood, black humor, a message here and there. In this case, the scenario isn’t modern Japan, nor the protagonists are the usual yakuzas. The story takes place somewhere in the feudal era, and Zatoichi, a blind samurai with an alternate occupation, is the protagonist here, played by Kitano himself as usual. There are plenty of characters, and all relate to this samurai in one way or another, but all of them get pretty much the same screen time. Music plays a huge role in the movie, lightly at first, and then ascending, to the point of a climax at the end. The film has its good set of plot twists, so there are more than enough things to motivate the casual fan. At the end, it made me want to check out the book, and that’s always a good sign.

I give it 8,5 crisaors.

I saw a couple of really good films in the last few days. Both quite different.

First: Manon des Source.

A lovely film, quite moving and beautifully shot. The storyline reminds me of Thomas Hardy's Wessex novels. Daniel Auteil (sp?) is excellent, as is Yves Montand. My only gripe about a film or story like this, is that it is too neatly put together. You can easily see the way that Pagnol has put this story together tying up all the threads and this makes the story a little transparent. Life is just not like that, threads tend to dangle aimlessly everywhere. But as long as you don't try to imagine this really happening, I think its a great film.

The second film I watched was Time of the Gypsies by Emir Kursturica (sp?). What a brilliant film. A menagerie of unforgettable characters in a kaleidoscope of the most colourful events. This film is one of the whackiest films I've ever seen. It made me laugh, feel sad, happy and intrigued. Its depiction of childhood amongst gypsies is superbly done. The antics of this poverty-stricken community are so endearing and yet also quite despicable. It is like the camp and its inhabitants represent the whole world in its craziness, a craziness that embraces greed, exploitation, spite, revenge, but also love, protection, loyalty and understanding. Exceptionally brilliant.

Last night, another forum member, Psyche, and I rented some movies, two of which I had never seen.
One-Hour Photo definitely showed how Robin Williams has the ability to play versatile roles besides comedy; he made an excellent villain. Everything about the film showed quite a creepiness factor that burrows under an audience's skin. The ending seemed a little ambiguous, but I loved the film over all. My rating: 9/10.
Chocolat I thought a French film until seeing the cast speaking without subtitles or dubbed-in voices, until I realized that there once existed a former Chocolat film in French. Wow, I have turned into the biggest movie watcher/critic these past weeks. I saw two movies yesterday.
Psyche and I saw Kinsey last night in theaters, based on (you guessed it) Alfred Kinsey - highly acclaimed and discriminated for his early studies in sexology. I never knew a lot about Kinsey, but studied a bit of his research in psychology - wonderful film, regardless, very touching. My rating: 8.5/10.
Last night, we also watched The Station Agent. The new-release started a little slow, but presents a lot of significant symbolism, speaking loudly of body appearance and its effects on a person who can carry a relatively dry, ordinary life. My rating: 9/10.

reminiscent of black and white films, some humour, jsut a good mystery and save the world with a reporter who's way to stereotypical... and a really cute sky captain... hmmm could have had better acting but effects were great! 8/10

The Grudge - It was pretty good, and it didn't rely on gore as a lot of horror films do, and it was still pretty creepy. 8 out of 10.

Napoleon Dynamite - This movie had some pretty funny lines, but not one that I would see again. 7.5 out of 10.

I saw ANOTHER film last night (the weather here has seemed gloomy, suiting always for a rented movie or theater). Shine definitely proved as a sad film based on a lesser-known mentally ill pianist named David Helfgott, played by Geoffrey Rush (his best act, in my opinion). The story began a little slowly, but ended as an unforgettably touching; I loved it, to say the least. My rating: 10/10 (really!).

I rented ANOTHER film the other night (finally, the weather begins a more pleasant hue) called Normal. In parts, it certainly carries a shock value about a middle-aged, married transgendered male-to-female in the 'Bible-belt' part of the U.S., and it continued a very interesting plot that maintains the audience's attention. I could not help but pity the main character with his liberal views in an exceedingly conservative region, but it ended well. The ending, however, seemed quite ambiguous, concluding on a note, leaving me well-informed in some parts, and questioning a few other social aspects.
My rating: 7.5/10.

I only saw the trailler (sp) and it reminded me of Schindler's (sp again) List right away..:)

Hotel Rwanda -- hope it wins the Academy Award. Superb film! Ray is a great film too, but Hotel Rwanda is such a serious subject. It's gotta win.

Regarding an earlier recent post, when Napoleon Dynamite came out, for a high school class I was substituting they couldn't find the physics video to be shown, so a student pulled out Napoleon Dynamite. I saw it four times. First time, -- sad comment on youth. Second -- hm, not bad. Third -- This grows on you. Forth time -- Wow! this is living!!

They showed Lilja 4-ever on TV , so I finally watched it.

The young actors are almost beyond belief, they are so good. This could easily become melodramatic, but because of the actors it works. This movie is based on facts about trafficking and prostitution. My boyfriend could not stand to see the whole movie, so he went out in the kitchen and made us hot chocolate. They have showed this movie to politicians in Sweden and it started a great debate about trafficking and how to solve the problem.

It´s almost a part of social responsibility to see this movie, and I´ll give it 10 out of 10.

Psyche, dearest, and I rented an old, black-and-white Japanese film last night called Ikiru (a verb meaning "to live" in Japanese). What a touching film! Its plot certainly opens one's eyes, asking the question: "if you know you were to die soon, what would you do?" hence the title. I felt surprised at most parts of the film, as no part seemed predictable, but the ending did have a relatively strung-out conclusion.

Psyche purchased a DVD a few afternoons ago of a film that she had raved about for some time, but found it no where, called Blood Freak, by far the best worst movie I have ever seen. Made in 1972, and regarded as a classic "B movie," the plot involved a giant killer turkey-man on a rampage of consuming the blood of marijuana-smokers, craving the drug. How ridiculous and poor the story, directing, acting, lighting, and sound proceeded made it into a rather humorous film. My rating: . . . undecided.

I watched Oldboy last night. It´s korean I think. It´s about a man who has been looked up for 15 years, without knowing why. When he get´s out he set out for revenge and tries to understand why this happend to him. Telling you more would ruin the movie. Det sjunde inseglet , by Ingmar Bergman . I think the English title is The seventh seal.

It´s the one with the classic scene where the knight plays chess with death. The actors voices sounds really strange, almost comic because in old swedish movies evryone talks like they where on the theater stage. But once I got used to it I loved the film. It is a dark, burlesque tale about a knight who gambles with death during the time of pestilence- the black death.

Oh that's definitely one I want to see!

Last night I saw a movie called "El septimo dia" (the seventh day), it was brilliant, it kept the tension to the end really! Rate: 9
It was part of a festival held in these days in my city, it's a festival of love movies but (thankfully?) love wasn't really the main point of this one. I'm absolutely not a big movie-goer but I regret not having bought a ticket for the whole festival (well of course I can go anyway but that would have been cheaper) cos there are a lot of interesting stuff... What I find interesting is that they are movies I wouldnt have the chance to see otherwise, cos they're not blockbuster stuff... and there aren't many from the USA, which is what we end up seeing most.
And they are in original language, how lovely!!! the festival provides headphones with (quite awful) simultaneous translation, but most movies are subtitled in English so I'm fine! The one I saw last night was in Spanish so it was a wonderful double linguistic exercise! We also tried to stay for the next one but it was a bit boring and harder to understand (no subtitles), it was meant to be for the section of the festival dedicated to perverted love and SM... but it didnt keep the promise, at least in the first 20 minutes...just gangsters and confusion, so we left.
There is also a section dedicated to Iranian movies and I hope to see one or two...and the Korean one on Thursday is mine! :)
www.schermidamore.it incase someone wants to have a look, but i dont think the site has english translation...
edit: yes, it does!

Wow, so yesterday all in all I watched 2 movies and a half...that makes up for the averagely 350 days a year when I dont watch any movie! :D

After many recommendations, I finally found the time to watch Kill Bill: Volume 1 last night. Quentin Tarantino, one of my favorite directors, has made something brilliant again, and he never ceases to astound me. I love the satire on classic kung-fu films, and the wandering plot that never seems to stay in one place with all of the time lapses. It was confusing at the beginning (especially as we didn't have very accurate subtitles and it was in French) but the whole story was great and a bit different than usual dramas. Yes, I saw this one a few months ago in the theatres. I made a rating on this thread about it somewhere, and believe I rated it easily 10/10, always loving Gael Garcia Bernal's acting, among others' in the film. Taking Psyche's recommendation to see a particular movie, we rented Basquiat last night - a film regarding Jean-Michel Basquiat, a painter closely acquianted, but not as famous as, Andy Warhol. It had quite a cast, including David Bowie (as Andy Warhol, and did very surprisingly well), Jeffrey Wright, Michael Wincott, Claire Forlani, Gary Oldman, and Benicio del Toro. I had known very little of Jean-Michel Basquiat in the past, but this film very well outlined his exceedingly intriguing life, art, and the art collaborated with Andy Warhol. I just rewatched "Blade: Trinity". It's not good.. Personally I'd rather watch the first two forever before ever having to watch this one again. It's got all new characters, poor acting at times, too much reliance on humor when it's pretty dark, and just overall wasn't exactly entertaining. It passes the time and it's hard to turn away from it, but it isn't interesting in the least. It has some okay special effects though..

That's because I didn't post about it. Isagel suggested that one after I gave my opinion on Hero (I believe it's on page 15 on this thread). That being said, I did watch The House of Flying Daggers this week. Just as you, I was expecting a more adventure-oriented movie, but it was fine anyway. The costumes, choreographies, effects, etc. are more than okay, as usual, but unlike Hero, I found the story to be somewhat lacking. The characters are unreliable, I found them very unappealing, and the histeric component imbedded in all of them annoyed me considerably. It was a good way to spend time (for me, anyway), but I got the feeling that it was only because I dig this kind of films. Casual viewers might want to see Hero instead of this one, as it's better and much more enjoyable.

Ms. Psyche and I watched The Life Aquatic, directed by Wes Anderson, the same for, one of my favorite movies, The Royal Tenenbaums. I cannot say I enjoyed this one as much, but I still found it brilliant, especially with Bill Murray and Angelica Houston still in the cast - as always the same dry, hilarious humor. :D
My rating: 8.5/10.

Patch Adams with Robin Williams nice despite being a true story.

I have just returned from Star Wars Episode 3:Revenge Of The Sith. It was ok, the special effects were amazing; Yoda is still the coolest guy in the world; and there are some decent laughs. However, it still is not a patch on the original films. Overall 7.5/10

Did you notice how at the end of the film it said based on a book? I think it was called the Gusunheit! institute is no laughing matter. I think Ill read that as soon as these pesky exams are finished!!

What the @$@#$# do we know? - Fairly good movie, it started out talking about quantum physics then went into... I can't explain it. I give it 8/10 (it was a little slow in parts).

I watched 3 films today!
Nicholas Nickleby - Great film! Cried like a baby- 7/10
Lion King 3- Was OK, clever how it used the first film, but you should never carry on a good Disney film, you go too far with a sequel, but should NEVER do a third! 5/10
Ocean's Eleven- Third time I've seen it and LOVE it! 8/10 !

Psyche rented a movie, of which she napped through, that her roommate and I watched called I ♥ Huckabees. What a strange film - twisted and unpredictable, yet insightful. Through each scene I found myself never knowing what to expect, but it had a very interesting, attention-getting plot, though with odd details.
My rating: 7.5/10.

I just watched Fight club with the other sorry people who cant stay away from school and psychology teacher!
Nice but I was told about the schizophrina bit ' what ---- you havent got it yet? I would have thought you were the first to get it!' thanks for the confidance!
yeah I liked it a bit violent and the ending was a but wierd I mean if he shot himself why is he alive and tyler dead??
Also it leaves questions unanswered which tends to make me :rage: !

Cold Mountain - kudos!!!! to Renee Zellweger. Miss Kidman struck me as insipid and unnecessarily modern (Chanel lipstick and blush on a former belle trying to run a farm in the middle of nowhere?). Jude Law is rather good as a character actor.

saw the documentary Enron last night. guess what - my dad's coworkers were in it, firefighters helping a woman out of an elevator during one of the rolling blackouts.

really psychologically amazing, and extraordinarily sad on a negative humanity scale (very close to a negative 10). my rating: a 9.5/10

oh yeah, also checked A Lion in Winter out of the library. excellent performances by Kate Hepburn and Peter O'Toole - magnificent, really. they don't make actors like them anymore...
sort of odd to see Anthony Hopkins in his youth
another high nine...maybe a 10.

OK, I just saw SW Revenge of the Sith. It is a lot better then number 1 and 2. Number 1 was just a Disney movie and 2, too romantic....Now number 3. I like, not as good as the old once by far, but good. untill the ending!!!!! now I am mad.

If you haven't seen this movie DO NOT READ!

Padme dies giving birth to her twins. WRONG! in Return of the jedi Luke asks Princess Leia, what their mother was like, well she says that she died when Leia was 4 and that she was always sad.
Leia is adopted by a senator. WRONG! it's princess Leia not a senators daughter!

Death of A Salesman- Dustin Hoffman.
Dustin Hoffman is my favourite actor so I was bound to love this film anyway! But it was still great! I love they way the set was laid out, it showed that this is a play and is meant to be acted out on stage, and Dustin's character Willy was so cute, and I genuinely felt for him! I love this film!

A fabulous movie in the true sense of the word....yes, a feel good movie, but what is the sin in "feeling good" I ask you. Crowe, Giamatti, Zellweger and the whole cast were terrific.

Oscars abound for this flick.......I do believe this is the best picture so far, this year.

PS

Don't miss it.

I've just watched Unleashed, starring Jet Li, Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman, and between Morgans Ray Charles impression, and Bob Hoskins trying to get away with being a heartless gangster (a stretch of anyones imagination), Jet Li was the only saving grace, with his brutal fighting scenes.

I thought Bob Hoskins managed well. If I remember correctly the script is written by Luc Besson, perhaps not famous for indepth characters. But I usually like his movies non the less.

On the subject of violence for fun - I watched Kung Fu Hustle last night. It was OK. Not the best fighting movie I´ve seen, but I enjoyed it non the less. All the small hints at other movies half hidden in fighting choreography amused me. The best fighting movie this year probably has to be Ong Bak. The young man in that movie outstunts Jackie Chan and Jet Li.

My younger brother and I watched Ladykillers earlier this evening. I felt a little unsure about the plot when reading about it, but succumbed due to severe boredom.
What I read deceived me, entirely, as I found the film an incredibly connived storyline that got even better as the movie unfolded. I cannot describe much of the plot, without spoiling parts of the conclusion, for those who have not seen it, but I recommend it to anyone.
My rating: 9/10. :)

Star wars III Revenge of the Sith (for the 2nd time). I give it 97/100. Kind of lacking in dialogue, but thats it. I'm also a huge star wars fan so this is a totally biased rating. :P

Leia's adoptive father, Bail Organa, besides being a senator for the Republic, was the viceroy of Alderaan, hence Leia's title. And when she talks about their mother, she might be referring to her adoptive one. Or not. The story is full of holes and contradictions, and most of them are much more graver than this one.
Still, I agree, it was a vast improvement regarding the previous two.

The new trilogy is pretty good, but 1 gets boring at times. (I love Qui-Gonn Jin still.)

That's curious Bong. He was a character I disliked, it didn't seem to have much entity as a jedi to me (stuff like "I'm not here to free slaves", and getting wiped too early for the fame he was supposed to have in the story didn't convince me much, so to speak). SPOILER AHEAD Besides, didn't you find it odd that he was the one to discover the path to immortality?

Bongitybongbong
06-14-2005, 07:18 PM
In all truthfulness no, I'm not suprised that Qui-Gonn found the path to immortality.Yeah he was cut out of the series, but being the fanboy that I am I read some books on Qui-Gonn and Obi Wan before Episode 1. I just think that he's a more "down to Earth" Jedi. He reminds me more of myself at times then any of the other Jedi do.

From what I gathered, all the ones who attained immortality (i.e. became ghosts), that would be Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Vader, died willingly, but Qui-Gon was struck dead (even if he hung on for a couple of words), he wasn't ready to die. That's what surprised me. Maybe they'll add more on this in the upcoming series (BTW, is that the one called Empire? I saw some adds on the NBA finals, and the logo looked like SW related, but it could be another different thing).
What books on Qui-Gon did you read Bong? Novelisations of the first movie? Another SW novel that has him as a character in another period of time? I'd like to hear more.

The last movies I'v seen are "Sin City" and "Kingdom of Heaven". Both are very good films. I'll give the 1st 95/100 and the second 97/100. The themes dealt with in both of them are very intresting. They are both a representation of human interacions in one way or another.

A series that takes place before Episode one by give or take 10 years at most shows Obi Wan's background from when he was about 13 (having to leave the temple because no Jedi would take him as an aprentice) to Qui-Gonn taking him to adventures and stuff like that. The series is called Jedi Apprentice and the books are quick reads (like around 2 books a day).
Even though Yoda, Obi Wan and Vader died willingly it doesn't mean that the club couldn't have Qui-Gonn. He seemed like he would have a large part in the series and if he died the only way was through becoming a ghost or immortal or something like that.

Just saw Batman Begins last night, and it totally blew me away. I loved it. Only complaint I have is that the fights were shot a little too tight overall, but sometimes it really worked. 9/10

It's a great new start for a franchise that was driven into the ground, and I look forward to the sequels.

Bartender: Starring Tom Cruise. I give it a 4/10. Classic story of guy gets girl, loses girl, and gets girl back. Very predictable story line the entire way through, there's even a suicide that's meant to really throttle the audience. Even though the most half-witted audience can see it coming. I really hated this movie.

Metropolis. Japanese animation movie about a future with robots that do the nastier work of societal life. Very interesting soundtrack, music sounds like big-band Americana in a movie where the characters speak Japanese. Also, the environments were rendered extremely well. 7.5/10

Can anyone believe that I had never seen Fatal Attraction until tonight? Why I have not taken the time to see this film, I have no idea, but I found it creepy, in a weird karma-like manner (and I had never seen Michael Douglass and Glenn Close looking so young). Fabulous movie, anyway, reminding one of the dangers of having an obviously unethical life. ;)
My rating: 9/10.

Last week I saw "Chocolat" for the 5th time. I am in love with that movie. Just the same thing that happened to me some years ago with Cinema Paradiso. Anyway, the last movie I saw at the cinema is an argentine one, "Luna de Avellaneda". Just fantastic

"Chocolat" mmmm I love this movie too... but I am in love with Johny Depp ;)
