the celebrities I have a crush on (if we can call it a crush!) are Edward Norton (together with Brad Pitt in Fight Club), Colin Firth,Robert Redford and Hugh Grant...and although this may sound weird, I used to love (actually, I still find him very attractive) Elvis Presley:D

aaah, the T.A.T.U girl! are they still hip over there?
over here they had a few hits a couple of years ago but since then I haven't heard of them.

Nah, few people know who they are and think they're lesbians! :alien: But I love all that techno and Yulia's voice.

heehee, well I don't know about their video clips over there, but in Europe they did style themselves as Lesbians. there was some controversy in the media about whether they are really a couple or only pretending to be lesbians as a PR stunt

Yup, I have gotten in fights for this. It was their publicist (who's now fired) who made them portray themselves as lesbian (it was in their contract) but now we all know Yulia is bi while Yelena is straight!

For sleepy,
Joseph Fiennes
The hot older man!:p
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q268/niamhking/josephfiennes.jpg

Niamh, the hot younger man! ;) I agree - he is a honey. Loved him in 'Shakespeare in Love' and 'Elizabeth' - he made a great Lord Robert in my opinion.

In fact, Niamh, just found out I am in agreement with three of your choices - guess which ones? I forgot about Johnny Depp - which film is that photo from? - love it!
Also, someone mentioned two more of my favorites:
Ewan McGregor
James Caviezal

But my favorite actor and the one I am in love with and have been for the last 10 yrs (though he doesn't know it) is 10 yrs younger than me:
Kenneth Branagh, mostly like his cute looks, sense of humor (yes, Ken can be quite hilarious!) and his fine acting and intelligence; I love him playing in anything Shakespeare and his voice and accent drive me crazy. Here's a little assortment of photos of Ken -

Henry V - stage

Younger photo
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p70/sealace/BranaghCute.jpg
Love him in black leather jacket:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p70/sealace/KenLeather2.jpg
Probably about the time of shooting Much Ado - blond ken
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p70/sealace/BranaghBlonde92.jpg

Next two - unfortunately - Emma and Helena got there before me....:(

Much Ado About Nothing
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p70/sealace/MuchAdoKenEmma.jpg

Sexy/toned Ken as Victor in Frankenstein, movie might have bombed but Ken was definitely eye-candy in that film!

what about richard hammond of Top Gear? i'm glad he survived his horrendous crash!!

Richard Hammond is SO CUTE! <3 I like Top Gear very much, but I have to admit that he is one of the reasons that makes watching it so nice  And that fastest car crash ever in Britain was just horrible to watch :eek2:

Yep, I am - I have a whole file on the guy! I also have other celeb picture files I have been saving for sometime. Currently I have a very cool photo of Johnny Depp on my desktop playing a piano. Is the man gorgeous or what? I drool a lot! If you notice I drool over the young ones of course. The Branagh photos are older ones so he has aged but I still keep the fanatasy of film alive. Yes, 'Much Ado' is so much fun to watch. Did you watch the extra stuff on the DVD, too. I soaked up the whole thing and loved every moment. I own the film and many more of KB's films. I love them all and watch them dozens of times.

PS: 'so much of him' - what? can't get enough of the man!

You know Jeremy and James always tease Richard for being so short, but that's probably what saved him in that car crash

Oh, the challenges are the best! Especially the one where they go to a caravan holiday and the amphibious car challenge and the road trip in America

Niamh

Well, I ever had a crush on a movie character, it was this guy:

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Dimension/8722/kai.jpg

Michael McManus is the actor, a clip from a show I would rather not mention since people who watched it usually hate it and hate me along the way, too.

Apart from that...? Oh, I don't know. I usually pay attention the character, rather than the actor. An actor could be good in one movie and pretty boring in another. But if I really had to choose, it would be Jude Law:

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/07/18/judelawalfie_wideweb__430x293,1.jpg

Particulary for Gattaca and eXistenZ, and there was some other movie, anyway, this guy is always good.

JUDE LAW OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! He is so, so GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :thumbs_up :D

hugh laurie? Really?

My grandmother LOVED him!! She would watch "House" just to look at him! I must admit I always kind of had a thing for him. Didn't matter too much who he was portraying!

I would like to reveal my crushes and let the world see my eclectic tastes, but I just can't. My list would go on forever!

I am such a slut when it comes to liking these men that I am never going to have! Especially since most of them are dead (I like an anwful ot of "classic" Hollywood" stars).

Perttu Kivilaakso from Apocalyptica. :sigh:

And also John Gardner from the 4th season of the US "Beauty and the Geek." I'm pretty sure reality tv stars count as celebrities, yes?

I'm looking for pictures hold on . . . taking too long I can't find the pictures I want! Now that BATG has been over for a while, pictures of John aren't coming up in google at all.

Here's one of Perttu, but he's kind of too pouty in it:

Definitely a female crush for me! I don't deny it either! I'd gladly come out of a closet I am not even in for her! Of course I would also put Kate Winslet and Salma Hayek on that list.

3 things.

1 - I just had a feeling fangs would be a bonus for you! ;)

2 - I couldn't tell you exactly when she pinches her nose, but she does do it! There was that commercial that they showed all the time over the holidays. I think it is for Chanel. Anyway, she did it so much in it!! It drove me crazy!

Well, here are 2 women of the past that I have always had somewhat of an infatuation with:

She was my first celebrity crush. Then came Angelina Jolie (when I saw Tomb Raider :brow: ) and finally Keira Knightley. That was when I watched King Arthur:

It drives me crazy how in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies they are like supposed to be all dirty and stuff but Keira Knightley always looks so gorgeous anyways. Grrrr. They make her look gorgeous even with dirt on her face. I wish I had that ability . . .

One of the benefits of age is the eventual realization that all those celebrity crushes are a waste of time. Forty-five years ago I went gaga over Ann Margret, but thirty years later, that devotion still hadn't gotten me anywhere whatsoever. So now I expend my energy in other ways.

I've got a question about make-up in films and series.
do they put make-up (eye liner, eye shadow, mascara) on men in movies nowadays? I know it was common in the 50s-60. In Star Trek, both Kirk and McCoy wear eyeliner and eyeshadow. in one episode, Kirk's got more eyeliner on than an average woman and it looks really camp, but most of the time it's pretty subtle and looks awesome (as far as Kirk can look awesome). As for McCoy, he's got blueish eyeshadow and in some Western series where DeForest Kelley played an evil guy, they even put lots of purplish eyeshadow on him and made his eyes up like those of a woman. (I only read about this one :().
Do they do that today at all (I don't mean the orange stuff they smear on their faces)?
If they don't, I demand the re-introduction of eye make-up for male actors :D
Who's with me?

Hi Sleepywitch, interesting post, since I wonder the same thing many times. I am sure they all wear some eye makeup/face makeup on stage or while being filmed (especially nowdays with HD DVD's - yikes one can see every pore on their faces. I would hate to be an actor nowdays.
This question interests me particularly, since in the Kenneth Branagh's film called "How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog", his wife Melanie comments to Peter, in one very amusing scene, "I wonder what the world would be like, if men wore makeup?"

Well, her is Kenneth Branagh applying his mascara before shooting "Much Ado About Nothing"....;) ...glad I came across this shot. :D

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p70/sealace/MuchAdoMakeupKen.jpg

I also noticed in Ken Branagh's acclaimed film "Henry V" he has very prominient mascara and eye makeup on during his court scenes but then later in the film they seem to have dropped that notion and he has much lighter lashes and looks more natural, even when woeing Katherine in the last scenes. Funny, don't you think? I guess all that rain in England and the film washed the mascara off! ;)

Here are some more yummy pictures of my favorite actor, not only for his physical attributes do I love the man, but for his brains, sense of humor and talent, just to mention a few things........oh did I mention his dreamy light blue eyes?

Sleepwitch, Oh good, check it out and let me know what you think.
I own the film, "Henry V" and I watch it all the time, being a big fan and I feel this is Branagh's #1 best film; although I watch his fine "Hamlet" a lot, also, and can forgive him for any flaws in that film. I feel "Henry V" is flawless though - great film!

I wondered why, in that film, the mascara was so prominent; actually, the eye makeup in the court scene, except Henry was in a dimly lighted room (torches and candles) and of course, Branagh did a lot of stage, so he definitely was used to wearing the makeup - one has to for stage. That court scene is dramatic and his eyes are very prominent. Hey, maybe Kings wore mascara at court?  I think he has makeup on in the scene when he apprehends his conspirators (once friends), and from there on the makeup seems to fade away. I guess one can't be applying mascara during a war. Pretty funny, I think. Also pretty funny, what one notices after viewing a film dozens of times, like I me!

I read Branagh's autobiograpy and there was a really funny part about how he said he was always rather bad at applying his own mascara. It must truly be funny for male actors to do so. I will have to dig up a photo from his film "Peter's Friends" because the first scene all the men are in drag and they have tons of makeup on - they look so bizzare and ridiculous! I hope I can find the photo.

Sleepwitch, glad you brought up this question and topic....it is fun! :D

Except Gregory Peck, whose biographys SEEM to indicate he was a great man in prvate life as well as professional, I cannot imagine looking up to just about any one in Hollywood or the theatre. And what a person has a crush on to me is the smoke and mirrors, the illusions that the person creates, not the real person at all.So, for me that is no more logical than having a crush on Peter Pan or say Bugs Bunny. The actors are just playing a part, drawing you into their make believe world. Therefore unless you know the person personally and from that basis really admire someone I don't see how it is possible.
But that is just me.
However I do like some of their work, but that is like appreciating someone's violin playing at the symphony or the excellence of the cashier at the market. It is not them but something they are doing as their job.

Well, Jane Jane, I think you might be taking this thread a little too seriously. I think you should lighten up and see it as just a fun thing and no one is truly 'in-love' or serious about these actors/screen stars. We can all fawn over their looks, or admire them physically; we all know it is just a fantasy thing and an escape temporarily from real life. As far as my love of Kenneth Branagh, it springs less from my emersion in his various roles and is more based on my admiration of the man and his work, achievements. I read his early autobiography and I found it 'honest' and really so interesting, I could not put the book down. Basically it was about how an actor would go about breaking into the world of stage and films. Also, how they would proceed to drama school to begin with and it sort of took me back to my own college day in art school. He spoke fondly of his family, his parents, grandparents and his siblings, that made me only admired the man more so for his personality, close family ties and his fine achievements and then potential. These actors are 'real' people and I think we all know this, unless we have our heads in the sand or are obsessed celebrity stalkers.

I continue to watch all the actors I like and admire, and see how they progress in their craft. I can only feel great regard to all of them, since I can't even fathom standing in front of an audience, let alone being filmed up close, in high definition, showing my every flaw and nuance of expression.

However I do like some of their work, but that is like appreciating someone's violin playing at the symphony or the excellence of the cashier at the market. It is not them but something they are doing as their job.

What is the harm of appreciating someones violin playing? or admiring that someone does a great job as a cashier at the market? I really do not understand this last statement of yours. If they play finely it is 'them' - it comes from their soul and their true essence of being; and if they work at their capacity and do a fine job - again it is the core of the person. I would rather admire them for their work, that which does make up their passion in life. Actors obviously do have this passion that drives them to perform and be what they were intended to be in life. We all have a calling.

Oh my gosh, I think it was Johnny Depp in Pirates, that really brought back this notion...he has the adorable pirate makeup on, with lot of eyeliner quite prominent to bring out his eyes....everyone is always saying his pirate photos are their favorites. How funny, JD may have started a whole new trend for men in general. He also, has a bit of makeup on in Sweeny Todd doesn't he? Haha - they will probably come out with makeup lines for men now, such as 'Pirates of the Carribean' makeup for men, or the newest - 'Sweeny Todd' line.

Oh yeeeaaahhh - I love this photo, too....and him in that role...ummmm:) . He was turning from the piano - right? It was great how different he looked in the dual role in that film and acted so differently, as well; even his walk or mannerisms were altered. I liked him best in the 'past'. KW, do you have that one on the wedding night scene, when he gives her the anklet and leans down to kiss her? I'd love that one in a still. I saw the video of that segment on You Tube, but could not figure out how to freeze it and get just that precise rare movie moment, to copy.

I know. Sometimes I feel guilty never naming him. Then I hear him sing and I think "He's pretty great, too". :) Of course there's also fact that Frank and Dean constantly made fun of him. But he mocked himself, too, so I guess it was all in good fun. (Then again, it really went back and forth every which way. The Rat Pack wasn't so much a musical group as it was a bunch of friends messing around onstage  ) Yeah, "Birth of the Blues" is enough reason to love Sammy.

He holds that last note in "She Was There" for fourteen seconds, and in the reprise of "Into The Fire" he holds for fifteen, give or take. He was the perfect Percy, right down to the goofy laugh and everything! Well, there are albums that I could recommend, but I think, as you are a "beginner", I would suggest 2 "collections". They are:

*Best of the Mercury Years (one of my favorite CD's)
*The Complete Columbia Singles Collection

This way you are getting a "taste" of his music. Plus, they are GREAT collections!!! These are the 2 that I consider a MUST for a beginner! If you like him enough (I highly doubt that you won't! ;) ), then I would tell you what albums to get. Definitely get those 2, though!!

Apologies, but Jessica Alba. Formerly Reese Witherspoon.

Both are incredibly attractive, and more importantly, have morals that transcend the Hollywood stereotype (so, yes, relatively speaking).

In all truth though, I am much too of a realist to care too much for celebrity crushes. I'll take the girl-next-door scenario anyday. Though Heidi Klum is remarkably immaculate...

I can see Greer Garson. She definitely has the glamour thing going on. :) Irene Dunne is OK, too, but I think her personality on screen helps with that. Why Claudette Colbert? She was OK, but I never could picture her as being one that a person would have a crush on. What would put her on your list of close seconds? :)

Well, I'd have to say "It Happened One Night" is superb; what a spunky gal, and Gable is great too. But the film that nobody every sees, but which is similar in name to "It's a Wonderful Life," is "It's a Wonderful World." It's also with Jimmy Stewart and Colbert has a line throughout the movie, "I swear by my eyes." A killer line and she is just too much. I think the film was shot in two weeks or something, a really good film.

Yes, I see what you mean with "It Happened One Night". I have to admit Gable always did it for me in there. ;) I have heard of "It's a Wonderful World", but I have never seen it. I do happen to know what it is about. I figure that is one of those films that might suddenly appear on TV one night (and I will miss it, as usual), or it will be on in the middle of the night when I won't even be up to watch it! :)

Well, speaking of Claudette, have you ever seen the film "Remember the Day"? That isn't a film that people really have seen either. Playing opposite her is John Payne. Love this man! I actually really don't have a reason for my "crush", though! :p He is probably #1 (next to the singer Vic Damone :) ) for me! I love this man, and few people know who he is. So, I always ask if they've seen the original "Miracle on 34th Street". He is the lawyer, Fred Gailey, that defends Kris Kringle. :)

LadyW, Thanks for the tip, Remember the Day; I'll search it down. John Payne's face looks familiar on IMBD, but looking at all his films, except "Miracle," I don't really know a single one for absolute sure. All these stars back then did so many films, 6-8 a year, and so many of them are buried. Carrie Fisher and Robert Osborne bring quite a few out, but there are 100's of them, maybe 1,000's. Actually, I haven't seen that Colbert movie in a couple of decades, so I'm really basing my appreciation on memory. In that film, she really kept pace with Jimmy Stewart who is certainly a legend.

Wait, I was 4 in '93...really though, she'd be the one. VERY interesting story, especially in her childhood. She hit Hollywood with a fawn. Not a mini-poodle or Chiuaua (sp.), but a deer.

Why are there all these pics o' guy celebs being posted?

We need some beautiful women.

My personal crushes:

#1. Scarlett Johansson.

http://blogs.chron.com/longhorns/scarlett_johansson_10.jpg

Most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

or...

Also,

#2. Keira Knightley

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/alexxshannon/Keiraskinny.jpg

Quite a large pic, but then again its for a largely attractive woman. Love her upper class english accent too, its so great! :D

#3. Katie Holmes

http://www.cinematicwallpaper.com/movie-pictures/wallpapers/Katie_Holmes_wallpaper/Katie_Holmes_2.jpg

Tom's going to be angry with that one. But it's kind of justified, I mean she's such a looker.

#4. Natalie Portman

http://www.teenhollywood.com/wallpaper/400x300/350/natalie-portman-wallpaper.jpg

Even in Star Wars I, II & III, with its emphasis on sci-fi, she still manages to be astonishing beautiful.

#5. Lindsay Lohan

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w124/ciaranmoore1991/lindsay-lohan-wallpaper3.jpg

(Before Lohan went on that drug tirade and turned her hair blonde [it really looked bad!])

Isn't he cute? And for once I like someone who's just 2 years older than I am instead of 20 :D

It was like two weeks ago when I just happened to open the TV. They were showing Sweden's Melodifestivalen (where they picked their song for the Eurovision Song Contest) and there he was

:( they don't show that here! (I think).

But I found Andrey Danilko while searching the Eurovision winners.

Matt Damon has his hot moments as well, but he was such a good actor in The Departed that I couldn't get past his lower than dirt character to appreciate his hotness. Now, the Bourne movies on the other hand are pretty good...

Beautiful indeed. I listened to some of her music after reading your post and it sounded great. I just wish I had a better grasp on Arabic so I could experience the full meaning of her songs.

I have no pictures, but I'd have to say my 'crushes' or interests at least would have to be Philip Quast (Javert from Les Mis), Anthony Andrews (only thing I've seen him as is Percy Blakeney from 1982 Scarlet Pimpernel), and perhaps Josh Groban.

The thing is I harbor no romantic feelings towards any of these men (the first two are old enough now to be my dad, so it would be VERY odd), I just appreciate their talents. Take Philip Quast for example. He is a stunning Javert and his voice could melt butter. Perhaps I'm just in love with his voice. Anthony Andrews is pretty darned handsome as Percy but I like his drawling fop mode and the 'sink me!' line too much to imagine him romantically. And Josh Groban--nice young kid, but I heard his voice before I ever saw a picture of him and it's so smooth and easy...a bit like Philip Quast's.

Whenever I write fanfics they usually involve me bugging these characters instead of trying to seduce them. It's just not in me.

I'm so glad you like her! Although my family is Arabic, I don't know Arabic well enough to be able to decipher everything she says. However, maybe you'll like this: Majida el Roumi and Jose Carreras singing "Light the Way," an operatic Arabic/English duet. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om_hGsOI6ZU)
