In a woven basket my calico cat
dreams of engaging big game -

on my smart speakers; "Ziggy" was

In response to "Computer"'s faux pas
I had had to address our new overlords'

of their fleet in orbit around Ganymede,

But one kid celebrated him, by gluing a leaf in the middle of
a beautiful mandala. The mandala still graced her house when she was a woman.

It woke up

No one had invited her.

But then the ghostly sructure disappeared
into thin air.

howers crept as the blood moon
rose and Xquic observes...

as side hustles went on the black
web this one was quite lucrative -
and paid in crypto currency laundered
so much it was virtually untraceable

dragging the inert form carefully
through the doorsteps outside
was the most arduous task -
a red wheelbarrow near a chicken
coop proved its worth beyond relief

dinner had been rather nice and the
poison quite effective and swift

incriminating belongings were
removed from the body: cell phone,
watch, sorority ring... no need for
temptation to pawn or otherwise
profit by them, they fit nicely in the
septic cleanout - a most fitting end

quicksand would have been her ideal
choice for concealment - a fanciful
thought of disposal where all that
remained was a cloche hat bemused our
protagonist - but was far too intractable

a stolen car, however, would do in a pinch,
towed, then eased into the steeply
sloped lake where it would remain
concealed for decades - providing
a mystery for future sleuths to ponder

... and thus the howering comes to an end;
the blood moon waxes and Xquic sleeps

Lololol! Was nonplussed about what was happening here until I discovered that I had misspelled "hovering", and you taking up the challenge, used an archaic spelling for "hours". Brilliant! That said, your dinner mustn't have been that "nice" yesterday + intensive watching of dark series.

During the night
The autumn was shedding cold tears on the ground
as a black sedan appeared on the boulevard
its headlamps illuminating the pebbles on the way
which shone ghostly in the dark night.

What was the sedan doing anyway
in front of the haunted old mansion
at this late hour?

The answer surely rested with the two heavily cloaked figures,
who got out of the car and went into the house
opening the door with a rusty key.
After a while they came out
and drove away
silently as they had come.

Soon the rain ceased and
the landscape shone silvery
bathed in the waning moonshine.
A morning breeze began to blow so very softly,
one could almost see the young flowers opening their buds.

Exorcising an old house... enjoyed :)

Dinner ?: 2-soft tacos, minestrone, and 2-chimichangas. Yes, a bit of googling for "howering" - it just seemed to fit :) The poem took on a life of its own after my thought of adding the blood moon to the howering and then a wiki of blood moon which led me to the fabled Xquic. The black web and crypto and cars in lakes come from recent news stories. Googled for a style of woman's hat gave me "cloche hat" where I had an epiphany for the "quicksand" stanza. Glad you enjoyed :)

re 2: I had a problem with the meaning of "roller". I thought first it was a scooter, in German they are called Rollers and I intended to insert a child on a nightly visit to the giraffe on the roller. But when I checked on the word I found it as part of a
machine or, slang, a drug, possibly a rolled cigarette. I didn´t know what to do with this roller, so it had to appear and disappear in the poem

Ode to a Fig Tree

Introduction to my humble ode on figs -
I would not endeavor to elucidate upon twigs,
branches midst brambles with deep root -
but its leaves and the royal entrancing fruit

Praised and cursed in Biblical lore the fig tree
has provided sustenance throughout antiquity
being deciduous with large sculpted leaves
of three to five distinct lobes one believes
suited ancient mother Eve and father Adam
for raiment after their transgression in Eden

Oh, how I look forward to late summer months
to pluck off the sweet morsels that confronts
the taste buds with soft spicy sweet - a taste
that must be acquired to be fully embraced
- the uninitiated expecting the jell of Newton
found within a soft cookie not free of gluten
oft not treats upon the noble fig tree again

in a beautiful female unicorn.
A bad witch had...well

“I'll Be Seeing You”

A desert wanderer found itself on the planet Mars
There were no oases but dune upon dune of sand
Controlled from beyond sometimes 'woken' by guitars
It rollicked and rolled to its own tune as it scanned

For signs of life, for someday its origin would have none...
And it run and run, as it were, trundling through fields
Of rock and sand and crater under a far distant sun
That couldn't sustain even the mirage of cornfields

From this distance and parched environment
And still it ran far beyond mission parameters
Its intensive search providing much enlightenment
For mission specialists who were far from amateurs

Till one day the death knell tolled, out of the blue
And as it at last rested lifelessly was serenaded
By a recording of Billie Holiday's "I'll Be Seeing You"
Then only the sounds of the Martian wind pervaded

In times of yore
without internet
and electronic
spying devices
we have today,
there existed the
now extinct tradition
of people meeting in discreet places
for the exchange of secrets
specially political ones.

On a windy March Roman day
two men met in a room
that held, beside an old statue,
only a likewise old table and some chairs.

After quenching their thirst,
with the vine they had brought
they discussed a secret
involving top politicians
of the country.

Next day the secret was
all over the place,
and both men
had hardly the time
to flee the country.

They hadn´t noticed,
that the statue was hollow
and had someone
hidden inside.

Got a bit flummoxed about the poem above, specially after confirming the suspicion that Mr. Oppenheimer's poetic status wasn't literary. Enjoyed however the extremely creative decoration of the cathedral.

The scene was flummoxing.
Two knights were portrayed
staging an intrepid dagger duel.

The curious part of it was:
they were fighting in their heavy armour,
on the shore of a seaside
with the sea in the background
like two crazy Quijotes.

The style of the picture was naive,

by the hand
of a child.

On The Sing Of Capricorn

His four hoofs solidly
planted on the ground,
come wind, come rain,
sometimes sun,
sometimes snow
and then sun again.
It doesn´t budge.

In its stubborn stillness
it resembles a caricature
of a bronze statue,
a whim of careless nature,
that chooses the gowns
for its numerous creatures
to celebrate creation.

Animal Paradise

A distant country
Seen though massive curtains of fog!
The proud peacock at the entrance
exhibits its elegant fan
and there they are all of them:
tigers, lions, foxes, elephants
and the cheeky little apes frolicking
on ever green trees along with chanting birds.
Fierce animals mingle with tame ones,
and there is enough food and water for all.
There are no masters and no hunters,
no sweating for prestige.
No one knows the meaning of
boredom and humanity.

Under the dusky lavender moon
shimmers the fading wreck of the ship,
the fading wrecks of so many ships,
caught by the treacherous icebergs.

For the roaming aerial eye,
not far from there
a small tide pool swarms with of life:
snails, barnacles, mussels, anemones,
urchins, sea stars, crustaceans, seaweed, and small fish.
Their now is eternity.

Thanx :) re: Saving? - Yes, still saving in a google.doc started circa November 2021 ?: at maybe 2.x poems per page @ 10 pt print with a bit of white space and dividers (just so) = 330+ pages so far. I may have referenced it somewhere ? Some of the better ones (very subjective here) go into my Padlet web page, which also contains my better poetry (ibid) from a previous 290 page google.doc @ 11 pt print, which was necessitated by google.sites corrupting my website (sheesh!) which contained my poetry circa 2003 - 2018... but I haven't caught up with the Padlet site (up to March 2023? ) yet and still need to clean up and edit (an ongoing process)... you may have seen the Padlet page somewhere in the past (it had a background of pink dogwood leaves and the first pix was my woodstove) as I was trying to fix some graphics at the time due to a photo saving site going pay only :( even for extremely low volume users like me. I also use the first few pages of the newer google.doc as a 2-page template for my Thursdays at Two poetry group :)

an eagerly awaited family reunion
fierce was the sun
lemonade
a watermelon and cold chicken day
grilled corn on the cob and hot dogs
and burgers, and chilled potato salad with
sweet pickles also in the offering
children tilted at piñatas
adults played at horseshoes
and generally caught up -
the most fun was seeing who had received
an inheritance of features tending
closest to photos of long past loved ones:
great-great grandpas' ears,
great-great grandmas' eyes and smiles...
lastly the white elephant exchange
a time honored tradition before
all turning in early in preparation

Ah. The so-called AI tools I dabbled with for a time were great for the Nonsense Poems' thread or perhaps offering scaffolds upon which to gain prompts that had to be fleshed out through way too much editing for some poetic forms I wanted to explore. I haven't trifled with the newer AI available and prolly will not.

Possibly the influence of our county's poet laureates, 2-emeritas & current, and the poetry workshops and readings are beginning to rub off on me (still learning :) )

The Rhyme Desk is helpful at a basic level for rhymes and thesaurus... I will often google if I need a word that Rhyme Desk balks at. It serves me as a better platform for me to write rather than using a text editor... though I cut/paste to a text editor... it's really not all that complicated.

The Light of the Soul

The ancient Orients knew of celestial magic;
I offer one example... let the events unfold...

The eye of Taurus, Aldebaran, wielded by sages
inflicted tragic atrocities upon their unknowing
quarry... the "evil" eye captured from the
heavens within a ewer of water floating upon
pure quick silver beneath a cloud free sky

Only a star ruby gem could preserve one from
the "evil" eye, hence coveted by the rich and
powerful and sought by nearly everyone

It was on a short trip to a waterfall to where
I sought to meditate and put ink to paper
as inspiration struck when I was lulled to
slumber by the serene sylvan surroundings

I dreamt that an evil sage, a rival court poet,
was contemplating my destruction that very
night and I had but scant hours to counter
his spell before Aldebaran rose in the heavens
- but I hadn't the talisman necessary, for I
never realized my position was worthy of death

Summoning my spiritual courage I awoke to
find a white tiger curled at my feet and, lo, a
peacock strutting nearby contemplating me

Another dream, perhaps the universe weighing
my worthiness when a golden koi fish leapt from
the waterfall's pool and truly stirred me to awaken

My compassion welled within me to gently gather
the koi with both hands and return it back into
the pool when I espied a sparkling pink pebble
amongst the gray matrices at the pool's bottom -
it beckoned me like nothing before and I strode
confidently into the cool swirling waters after
shedding my humble court garments and sandals

I plucked the gem from the bottom after dousing my
head and reaching with all my might with eager
fingers, clutching as not to drop it if I should falter
- a perfect pink star ruby! the light of my soul !

The sun was setting as if embarrassed, jealous
of my prize, and, as I dressed and gathered my
belongings secured the heaven sent gem as
best I could - curious, I brushed a few white
stray hairs from my sandals and nearby spied a
pristine peacock feather with which I thought
I could make into a fresh quill pen to write with

Aldebaran glowed angrily within the silver ewer
as smoke curled and the very water became fire

The palace was rent with the bloodcurdling cries
of the jealous sage whose incantations had
rebounded upon himself as he was torn asunder
by the massive claws of a silent unseen beast

hailstorm had gone and the night's sky
revealed

The stars appear as dead to me as Vacana's

Today's emptiness and llama dung
will be my inspiration as I absently inscribe
the finishing touches upon an urpu's
decorative design of concentric coils
of lancehead snakes

A breathless runner brings tidings
an assortment of khipu - a sort of letter;

Perhaps it's weird in these Latter-days -
entertainment platforms for gaming is not
my forte; chess is more my idea of timeless
warfare with a side of "Risk" or "Stratego"
or dimpleboarded marble checkers, not the
American checkers - not that I get to play
much of anything any more he softly sighed

Scrabble or Yahtzee are fond memories
Dabbling with backgammon without really
understanding its nuances was a short lived
diversion - it's classic board games for me

Where the entertainment platforms shine
is the endless streaming possibilities...
why, for less than $1000.00 USD per month
one can access the entirety of archived
drivel available for mind-numbing binge
watching - and I've done it too, to a much
lesser extent: another opioid for the masses

Perhaps government has got it all wrong with
caring for our homeless: spending billions
of dollars on planning commissions and feas-
ibility studies with an endgame strategy of
getting absolutely nothing constructively done
other than lining the pockets of the privileged
... such are the games we play

Winter Zero Grade

Winter that year was adamant.
Snow kept falling directly and
continuously
on rooftops and roadsides.
The white landscape made anyone blink
that ventured on the streets.
Yet the taverns where full.
The guests drank to keep warm,
at least they thought this a good excuse,
and went swaggering home.

The life of a poem

The tireless retinue
of refined words
encrypted by time
materialize
magnetically
on the palm
of your hand

Little fairies, pucks, djinns
your fingers move them
ever so softly.
They have something
to say,
to show,
to imply,
above all
to encrypt again,
to sink again
into
the vast oblivion of time
until summoned forth
again!

Red Dawn on Triton

Red dawn, a storm was brewing -
massive creatures, akin to
tortoises, evolved from a
teeming blue planet destroyed
in the red giant expansion,
sought refuge in hospitable seas

Effortlessly they flowed through
waving blue fronds in the
effervescent fluidity common
to the massive moon Triton
revolving the 5th planet from
the sun - Neptune

Storms were welcome - they
stirred up creatures from the
depths which in turn attracted
mariner bipeds to venture out
from the firmaments they called
home - easy prey once capsized

Winter at 33º

Thor in wrath at earth's destruction
has relinquished all his control
on temperature.

in the cities, boulevards
That used to glitter under the sun
loaded with the liveliness of people,
now groan deserted under the weight of snow.
In the forests little animals scurry
through and fro
not knowing where to hide
from fire, frost and flood.

Yet there is still
much uninspired,
passive,
looking out of
windows,
with the secret hope
that the moment of destruction
will pass just by itself
at a snap of fingers.
It won´t!

cooing, cuddling, and making

unique to the universe

spicy metaphors of beauty
Venus with or without arms.
exuberant flowers
gorgeous birds.

But nothing thrilling about
the diminutive but cruel shrike.
His colors shine modestly
through the thick fog
of representation.
