"O little ones, ye cannot know
The power with which ye plead,
Nor why, as on through life we go,
The little child doth lead."

This is a funny and bitter-sweet story about Carol Bird, a young invalid, and the interest she takes in her underprivileged neighbours, the Ruggles children. Carol's gentle spirit and generosity touch all those around her, and you will find your heart touched as well when you read this story that is both tender and amusing.
