Great blog entry, Virgil, and beautifully written, to boot.

Thanks, also, Gilliatt, for giving a name to the cicadas. I grew up in Oklahoma, and cicadas are, to me, the sound of summer.

Here's a little bit about them:

And here's what they sound like:

    Also, great pic, Virgil.

No, I didn't hear that but it wouldn't surprise me if there were.

Thanks. Are they the annual kind that Gillette mentions above?

Cicadas are quite prevelent here as well each summer typically around August, though I'm referring to annual Cicadas aka "the dog days Cicada".
It is pretty amazing that something can remain in larval stage buried for 17 years only to emerge for a few days to take care of business then die.
I'll have to tell you my delinquint antics with releasing a few dozen Cicada's in a shopping mall.
    Thanks for sharing.
Thanks GG. I didn't realize there are annual cicadas too. I had only heard of the 17 and 13 year kinds.

I was always confused, as a junior, by famous one-liners, Diamonds are forever or Diamonds are a girls best friend, but now its a fact that to a mother her tots are no less than any gems.

    About this video.

I asked my Elders about it and they told me that they never ever heard this many or gave their mothers/guardians the opportunity to let her go on and on and on with such [i]sweet[//i] words to express her appreciation of love for them, when they were kids.

No doubt the main reason that today's moms are/feel more than miserable are just because of the existence of such jewels she cared for. Where are the good old days?

Nice to meet you too, Virgil and may God bless you.

Glad you liked it. I'm terrible with abbreviations. "Adult HW"? Hope your precious little one is doing well.

BTW, Virgil, I am hooked on Dazed and Confused. I have to get my fix of that song at least two times a day or else I go mildly eccentric. I am a colossal fan of Led Zeppelin I. What do you think of Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of The Moon' or 'The Wall'? I really enjoyed reading your critique on Led Zepp and I agree with all of it, except the part on Page's vocals. His wailing cries of "Allll nightttt LOOOOOONGGGGGGG" at the end of "You Shook Me" sends shivers through my spine literally a decade after I first heard the song.

I added you as a friend, so that can't possibly be the problem. I'm not sure where the complication lies. Maybe the blogs are having some technical issues? (BTW, it's great to see you again, Virgil )

No. She's gone to bed. Perhaps she'll see it here. My wife that is. My mother wouldn't know a computer from a microwave.

I might get slammed for this, but I prefer Led Zeppelin to The Rolling Stones, even though the latter are far more original. Great post, Virgil and thanks for the friend request!(hopefully it wasn't accidental) XD.
Of course the friend request was intentional. I was surprised we weren't friends already. I couldn't comment on your blog. You must have the setting at only friends allowed to comment.

"She's So Cold " is off the same album as "Emotional Rescue." Those are all great Stone's songs, and I have said that "Gimme Shelter" may be the all time greatest anti war song ever written. The lyrics "War is just a shot away" contrasted with "Love is just a kiss away" are so awesome.

As to Zeppelin, they are certainly a great group, and many people today consider them the greatest. I love a lot of their music too, but let me put out some critique. In my opinion, their greatness rests on one thing: Jimmy Page's guitar virtuosity. Bonham was a very good drummer too, I have to add that. But I really don't think Robert Plant (I know people are going to slam me for this) was that great lead singer. I think he's rather mediocre. His voice is limited at best, and rather annoying at worst. I don't find a lot of subtlety to their songs, I don't find nuisance, I don't find any nimble lyrics. There is a great sound with varying dynamics and Page takes songs on an instrumental ride, but what else? They're limited. They never really made it out of the seventies. That was their creative outburst and never adapted. Would you consider that the greatest?
