3:00 - Shannon complains to a coworker that the university's theatre department has been doing a horrible job of annoucing try-outs for the plays lately, and that she thinks that this is because the directors are type-castors who simply tell their favorite students that they have a part.
3:10 - Coworker tells Shannon that the people working on the current production are still looking for a Caucasian female for a small role.
3:20 - Shannon goes to director's office and casually mentions that she, a Caucasian female, might be interested in filling the role.
3:25 - Director hands Shannon a copy of the script and says "You're Kristen. Practice is tonight at 7:30"
7:30 - Shannon is in class.
8:15 - Shannon leaves class and heads straight to the theatre. Walks in on the star of the play reading the one and only scene that Shannon will be in, with a substitute reader. Director cheers that Shannon is here, and a run-through of the scene commences.
8:18 - Shannon realizes that she is playing a rape victim. Temporary shock ensues.
8:25 - Shannon and main character go to a side room to run through the scene again while the rest of the cast practices another scene.
8:30 - They run through the scene again, go over minor changes, exchange ideas about using the rape scene as a possible video for sexual harassment awareness groups who conduct workshops, and call it a night.
8:50 - Shannon calls boyfriend, tells him whole story, and then talks with him about the latest episode of "Scrubs."
...You know, after a few years of being typecasted, this is really new for me. It should be fun, though...being someone I'm not for once. This girl is sooo not me; feminine, naive, and who knows why she's out partying all alone the week before she is to get married? Dumb White girl is basically the idea...so I have a lot of work to do to get myself...err...down to her level,I feel sorry for her because there are so many girls like her who don't fight rape, but I can't feel sorry for her when I am her, I've got to justify her and make her seem real.
As if I needed a challenge with my crazy schedule.
