Debra Allbery's 'The Reservoir,' Jeanne Foster's 'The Pearl River' and Brenda Hillman's 'Canyon' are well structured poems which express the process of self-education. Places such as Enterprise, OH, the Pear River and Tilden Park, while being presented as landscapes, are also used to represent mental states. These poems are examples of the contemporary poets' innovations with the confessional mode.
