Lange sees land of opportunity in `Pioneers!'

When actress Jessica Lange learned that Willa Cather's O Pioneers! might be shot as a television movie, she began to lobby for the project.

It was the kind of project that could never be made as a theatrical film. "This character presented a whole other set of problems," Lange said. "She's very interior, very stoic in that Scandinavian sense, where things are held privately. Nothing is revealed."
