"Death Comes For The Archbishop"

Written in 1927, Death Comes for the Archbishop was an experimental book
for Willa Cather. She received inspiration for the novel from The Life of The
Right Reverend Joseph P. Machebeuf, by Father Howlett.

Fathers Latour and Vaillant are simple, pious men who triumph over the
rough, unexplored country and its society. The two priests have been friends
since they were at the seminary. They are opposites who blend beautifully.
Father Latour is a quiet, gentle thinker; Father Vaillant is friendly, a man
of action.
