The Haunted Hotel (Belgrade Theatre, Coventry) Verdict: Spirited melodrama with Victorian ghouls

ONCE the wide-faced glamour kitten, Susannah York has turned into an imperious grand dame. Good on her.

She popped up in Coventry this week in a Wilkie Collins ghost story that will be visiting Cardiff, Glasgow, Woking and Chelmsford.

The Haunted Hotel is a traditional spine-chiller done with rustling silk costumes, classic projection of voices and a proscenium arch.
