One of Wilkie Collins' most famous books gets the stage treatment this week at the Derby Playhouse Studio Theatre.
Billed as a sensation novel in its day, the Woman in White is very much a product of the Victorian era in which it was written.
The Marlowe Players stay true to the historic timeline and have created a mini "upstairs downstairs" world where men were men, ladies an afterthought and servants knew their places.
First-night nerves led to several fluffed lines but overall the amateur dramatic company's effort was enjoyable, if a little laborious at times.
