Oscar Wilde portrayed characters who had immoderate passions such as those of Dorian Gray in the novel entitled 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and the Biblical figure of Salome in the play of the same name. Dorian does not feel remorse for a murder he committed and goes on to devote his life to debauchery. Salome likewise is excessive as she asks for John the Baptist's death to satisfy her lust. Of the two characters, Salome resembles the worst that a human being can be.
