DIEPPE has long held a special place in British affections.

Throughout the 19th century, the cultural and social worlds of England and France met here, playing baccarat, swopping gossip and exchanging ideas.

The Newhaven-Dieppe ferries, with connecting trains to London and Paris, made Dieppe a vital hub. Lord Salisbury, Proust, Degas and Aubrey Beardsley were all aficionados.
