Children Of Adam
Background.
The third edition of Leaves of Grass, printed in 1860, contained a
section entitled Enfans d' Adam (Children of Adam). It was composed of
fifteen poems, twelve of which were then published for the first time. It was
not until the 1867 edition of the book that the section was called Children
of Adam, a title which was retained throughout subsequent editions. At this
time, the entire group was moved, from the center of the book, nearer the
beginning, directly after "Song of Myself." Children of Adam and the
