Song Of Myself: Sections 1 - 16
Background.
It has been mentioned previously that "Song of Myself" is one of the two
strongly personal and autobiographical poems in Leaves of Grass. However, the
poem as it appeared in the first edition of 1855 was untitled and did not
possess the intense personal expression of later editions. The personality it
revealed was closer to that of a robust poet-herald than to that of Walt
