It is essential for the US to invest in the arts to maintain its global leadership. Statistics show that the number of American artists is growing. Unfortunately, several entities such as the government, corporations and even foundations seem to restrain support for the arts. The country needs to nurture its artists even though the need for it remains less obvious and abstract. Artists are necessary for Americans to better understand themselves and what their country is all about.
