SCOTLAND'S goal hero Gary Caldwell is a true Braveheart - after growing up in the shadow of the Wallace Monument in Stirling.

Dad Tom, a former East Fife player, and mum Marylynn encouraged Gary and elder brother Steve to follow their footballing dream.

And their faith paid off last night when defender Gary, 24, scored his wonder strike to sink France at Hampden.

The Celtic star sent the country into a frenzy and finally gave the Tartan Army hope of reaching their first major tournament since 1998.
