En dos ocasiones, la figura de Victor Hugo apareció en la escena mexicana, la primera al solidarizarse con los hombres de Puebla en su lucha contra la ocupación francesa; y la segunda, al solicitar a Benito Juárez el perdón para Maximiliano. Esta es la carta enviada por el escritor y que llegó tarde a su destino.
