There is an old saying in politics that you can't beat something with nothing, and that's the dilemma backers of the recall vote faced in seeking to oust Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
The loose coalition of unlikely partners behind the recall -- business leaders, labor unions, the Catholic Church, far leftists, the media -- was united only in its dislike of Chavez. It offered no clear alternative candidate or program.
