Chinese playwright Cao Lusheng has adapted French author Victor Hugo's 'Ninety-Three' for the stage.

It is the first time that Hugo's final novel, based in Shanghai, has been adapted by a Chinese playwright. It will be performed in Beijing between 23 April and 2 May 2004 and Shanghai on 5 and 6 May 2004.

The production, directed by award winning director Wang Zunxi, is being staged as part of China's celebration of French culture during 2004, reports Xinhuanet.
