Michael Longley was named the winner of the 8th T S Eliot Prize for poetry at an award ceremony held at Lancaster House. He was presented with a cheque for #10,000 by Mrs Valerie Eliot, who has supported the Prize since its inception in 1993. The ceremony was hosted by Alan Howarth MP, Minister for the Arts, and guests included Seamus Heaney, Roger McGough and Melvyn Bragg.
