Poet T.S. Eliot was influenced by music hall performers of his time in creating the characters and ideas of his poetry. Music hall singer Marie Lloyd provided the model for the allusions and silences in Eliot's poem 'The Waste Land,' and Eliot named a character in another poem for her. A multilingual music hall performer named Little Tich was 'The Waste Land' in miniature, arguing about philosophy and performing feats of mathematics.
