LETTERS containing some of the poet TS Eliot's most personal memoirs are to be auctioned in London. In them, Eliot tells how he was tormented over his marriage to his first wife, Vivien - whom he had committed to a mental hospital. A letter to a close friend and the wife of his publisher, Enid Faber, later one of the few people to comfort Eliot at Vivien's lonely funeral, was written in January 1947 after hearing of his wife's death. The letters will be auctioned by Bonhams on 10 September.
