Character Analyses

An historical drama presents particular and often peculiar problems for
the playwright as does the verse play. When Eliot began to write Murder in the
Cathedral he thus compounded his problem by writing an historic verse play.
If a drama is based on historical characters or on historical incidents, the
playwright must first form his own opinions based on the facts he has
available to him. Then, because poetry demands a specialized language and
