The Charleston Poetry Society will celebrate the 146th anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Tagore, the first Asian to receive the Nobel Prize.
The society will observe the anniversary at noon Saturday at the Dunbar Library. Tagore was a poet, novelist and educator. He was also an early advocate of independence for India.
Retired West Virginia State professor Dr. Basudeb DasSarma, himself a poet, will present a brief glimpse into Tagore's life, literary work and paintings at the celebration.
