When a dance bills itself as a story about passion, obsession and desire, one expects a bit more verve than the tepid, sometimes melodramatic performance offered by Katha Dance Theatre in "The Hungry Stones."

Based on a story by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, "The Hungry Stones" is the tale of a marble palace whose stones hold secrets of conflicted love, and of a new tax collector ensnared in the dreamlike web that the stones weave when they come alive.
