Artist Hamilton Dixon's sculpted foliage honors deceased members of UD community

DAYTON - In his 1928 book Fireflies, Rabindranath Tagore wrote, `Trees are the Earth's endless effort to speak to the listening heaven.' Seventy-four years later, the Serenity Pines Spiritual Garden at the University of Dayton includes a trio of tree sculptures that embody that desire.

Hamilton Dixon installed the forged-steel curvilinear forms with raw copper leaves at the site between Marycrest and Gosiger halls in April. There are 109 leaves; each representing a person who passed away while a student, faculty ...
