Nancy Drew, the girl detective, was originally the creation of Hardy Boys' mastermind Edward Stratemeyer, who commissioned a series of books about a girl detective, written under the name Carolyn Keene. That was in 1930, and Nancy has been around the block a few times since then. More books than one could count, plus TV and movie efforts (none of them particularly successful), have contributed to the long life of this popular female.
