Además de novelista y poeta (hace dos años se conmemoró el aniversario de su muerte), fue un prodigioso escritor de viajes. Edinburgo huele a Stevenson, y la isla del tesoro y Jeckyll y Hyde ya son patrimonio de todos. Escocia, Estados Unidos y los mares del Sur, muy especialmente, no se pueden conocer sin haber leído a Stevenson, que murió en la isla de Upolu, Samoa, en pleno Pacífico, donde hoy se levanta un museo en su memoria.
