HE is one of Scotland's greatest novelists, whose books still sell around the world and have been filmed more than 100 times.

But a new movie will portray Robert Louis Stevenson as never before - as a suspected rapist and murderer.

Stevenson Under The Palm Trees, set in Samoa during the author's final years, will throw in a fictional story of violence and sex.

It is based on a novella by Argentine-born writer Alberto Manguel, who has Stevenson meeting a South Sea missionary called Baker, who wears a hat similar to his own.
