Pirates are hot. And not just when the swashbucklers are being portrayed by Johnny Depp.
Colorado Springs got in on the action by making the pirate classic "Treasure Island" this year's selection for the All Pikes Peak Reads communitywide reading event.
Robert Louis Stevenson packed his adventure with weather-worn maps, buried treasure, depraved pirates like Long John Silver, mutiny, a hangman's tree, wooden legs and sword-fighting. The boy Jim Hawkins gets his hands on a map for buried treasure and sets sail for the loot and a lifetime's worth of close scrapes.
