While he spent most of his later life abroad, Robert Louis Stevenson was born and raised in Edinburgh and the city was always close to his heart. In childhood, when he was often ill, he used his imagination to create fantastic stories he would later use in his novels. The Capital's streets, where he spent many days and nights with those from all walks of life, provided a wealth of material, and his studies as an advocate sparked what would become Kidnapped.
