A RACE against time is on to save a rare island church with links to the family of Robert Louis Stevenson and one of the world's most celebrated lighthouses.

The congregational church on Tiree has braved countless gales and storms since it was built in 1856 but, with its roof now caving in, many seem resigned to the fact that the kirk's end is nigh.
