In his 80-page journal, World War II veteran Paul Tinello writes about the loss of fellow comrades, the feeling of being shot at by the Japanese and basic day-to-day life at an Army Air Forces base in China.
"Awful! The air currents are fierce. Just like a quick drop in an elevator," he writes in a March 1943 entry. "(Samuel) Butler said we damn near spun out. Heard Captain (Henry) Brady and other planes had their share of trouble. Finally broke into the clear. I don't care to go thru there again."
