Robert Barr, a retired Lynn police officer and owner of the former Shaw Catering Co., died Friday in Shaughnessy Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem. He was 72.

Born in Lynn, Mr. Barr was a lifelong resident of the city, graduating from Lynn English High School.

He was an Army World War II veteran who served as a sergeant in England, Africa and Italy. Named a reserve on the Lynn Police Department in 1950, Mr. Barr was appointed a regular in 1951. He retired from the force in 1983. Mr. Barr owned Shaw Catering Co. from 1960 through 1985. An athlete, he played for the Post 291 American Legion ...
