Britain Wins Control of Railroad
LONDON (AP) -- The British government won a court order Sunday to take control of the much-criticized private company that runs Britain's 32,000 kilometer (20,000 mile) railway network.
The government, signaling an end to its patience with problems created by the piecemeal sale of the formerly state-run rail network, acted after turning down Railtrack PLC's latest request for more public money.
