Threats of fuel price protests that had triggered a wave of panic-buying at British gas stations proved empty Wednesday, as only a few truckers and farmers answered the call to rally at refinery gates.
The largest turnouts numbered only a dozen or so, and many refineries attracted no demonstration at all.
But Britain has already felt the impact as motorists, remembering how pumps ran dry five years ago when fuel protesters blockaded refineries, have been lining up at retail stations since Monday.
