The world's richest nations are likely to agree to freeze debt repayments for countries devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami, and some countries may have all or part of their debt written off, Britain's treasury chief said Tuesday.
Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown said members of the G-8 were lining up behind a plan, first proposed by German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, to make debt relief part of the disaster response.
