The charming little Welsh border town of Presteigne has more than usual to celebrate when its annual Festival of Music and the Arts opens this evening.

Not only is this its 25th anniversary, it also marks the 50th birthday of George Vass, the Walsall-born conductor who has been the festival's artistic director for 15 years.

"So it's celebrations all round," says Vass, who is also active as a composer and percussionist.
