Last autumn the CBSO became the first major orchestra to launch its own podcast, each month bringing the public a new sound magazine filled with features about the backstage life of the ensemble and its many spin-off groups.

The immense success of the venture has come as a surprise even to those who conceived the idea in the first place.

"We never imagined it would be as successful as it has been," enthuses Tommy Pearson, podmaster and presenter of the 30- minute programme.
